Re: North Baltimore From Above
Very well done. How much of the container traffic is actually just transferred train to train there and not put on the road at all?

Re: Cellphone Interference
As Cory said, cars are a hot bed of interference, but also be mindful of phone and GPS chargers. Tune in a fringe NWS station and plug and unplug the chargers to note any difference. If you aren't afraid to open the chargers up you can solder a capacitor across the leads that will cut out all or at ...

Re: Shortlines around Columbus
The OC NWT to NS Watkins usually heads east about sun up. He was by Blacklick about 0630 today. NWT power is then used on NPT to CSX Parsons, normally getting to Columbus around noon and if things go well at Parsons starts heading home around 5 PM.
Re: Q111
Should all be containers for Q022 to take on east out of Columbus. Zero or very few for Columbus itself at this train runs just to avoid NWOC.

Re: New CSX Oil Trains in Central Ohio
Never been a K079 via Columbus that I know of. K030 today turned in to a K080 at Parsons and was likely just not entered properly when it hit Rose Lake to start with. Normal moves should be K080/82 loads and K081/83 empties.

Re: G&W OCS on I&O...?
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=445290 Here is the OC "OCS" from yesterday. At present OC & I&O are swapping this train directly between the two roads via the use of a pilot. Marks the first time the G&W roads have done something like this and not sure what kind of strings had to be pu...

Ran Columbus to Newark and return today. The brass was alighting along I-670 at 430 PM. Not sure what the train did after that.

After the initial rush of about 6 of these before Christmas, I haven't heard one of these in the past week. There was an E417 the went west after Christmas but that is the only one since. Here is on I shot south of Columbus, OH before the holidays - http://www.flickr.com/photos/30790308@N03/83020789...

Re: Attic Antennas
Reception has been up and down a bit this week but has been on the hot side several mornings. One day heard a detector north of Hamilton, OH from Groveport. Yagis are not hard to build but can be a bit tough to tune without the proper equipment. Also I have found they don't work all that well in an ...

Re: Attic Antennas
I suffer the same thing on the Dayton District so I doubt changing to a directional antenna will help you very much to the west. The RS ground plane is a good antenna out of the package and can be made a bit better trimming it for 161 MHz. I trimmed both the vertical element and the radials as well ...

Re: New CSX trashmodal train on the Columbus Line?
Yes, CSX power runs around at Parsons to head east on the C&N/Panhandle when the OC can take it and vice versa when they bring it back. Returns the same way it came - Parsons/Yard A/CP-139 and on up the Columbus Line. Same CSX power that came from NJ is used on the OC over to Apex and back. Unsure i...

Re: New CSX trashmodal train on the Columbus Line?
These head to the APEX landfill on the OC with the CSX power staying on. Usually doesn't take OC and the landfill very long to get it back to CSX hast Columbus.

Yep nothing new as they have been running this way for a three years or so. But yes it is rare to have two as close as there was this week. They end up in South Carolina or Georgia I believe.

Re: NS Dayton District
Appears that train 200 brings in the power used on train 235 as well. Nice shot of NPT as well but too bad the G&W SD40-3 wasn't leading as that's the one that has the mars light or "mars like" light installed recently. It has a low nose headlight but note the newly installed lights on the cab in bl...

Actually, freight is the majority traffic and just the daily 380/381 pair which for the most part is nocturnal in Ohio at least. Coal used to make up much of the traffic but now coal traffic is down to 1 to 2 per week for the most part and just loads. Haven't seen or heard of an empty train going vi...

Re: Limeville/Sciotoville Bridge
Well yes usually one thinks of the Northern as being the south leg of the C&O Russell to Toledo "coal conveyor", but in actuality westbound lake, utility and metallurgical coal and the returning empties now only probably account for about 25% of the traffic. It is surprising to see how much coal act...
