Re: Best time in the summer to railfan
Don't really know, as I have not been there in quite a while. My son kept track one time, to see if it matched the number that TRAINS magazine said--- and it was pretty close. But from what I read now, it's about half of what it used to be. Probably won't be back, due to health issues--- but it was ...

Re: Freighter Strikes Underwater Object in Lake Superior
Saw a video of that boat in Two Harbors last night, and they were commenting on the damage. Then about 4 or 5 hours later, saw in a news video that the boat was listing and needing assistance. Didn't anybody check for damage while the boat was empty????

Re: Best time in the summer to railfan
Regarding Fostoria---- unless things have changed since the railpark has opened, it is best to go there on an overcast or cool day. I remember when I was there with my son, there was a complete lack of shade, and on a hot day there was no relief from the sun. But, maybe that has gotten better nowaday...

M.R and Trains Magazines
Saw on the phone today, where KALMBACH MEDIA is closing its doors, and MODEL RAILROADER AND TRAINS magazines have been sold to Firecrown Media, of Chattanooga, TN. Could sort of see this coming, as these mags were a shadow of the excellent publications they once were, but still sad to see it go this...

Re: Could have Conrail survived?
Conrail turned my son into a railfan, and he wishes it still was around. We used to watch CR mainly at Mound Road Yard, in Warren. Used to catch the weekend operations and after school,on the way home. The crews were really good at answering questions, and explaining why they worked the way they did...

Re: Michigan Cabooses
I am sure somebody knows about it, but there is an old GT caboose, on LITTLE MACK RD., north of Masonic-- if I remember correctly, and if it is still there.Have not been in the area for about 7 years. Was on the WEST side of the road. I want to say it was a wooden caboose, but my memory is not so go...

Re: Michigan Central Railroad Bay City Branch question
By looking it up found that it was 1873, and the last passenger train was 1964. Some of it is still in use, other sections have been removed. As of today, it stops at M59, but HESR AND LSRC still use parts of it.

And that is how to create a railfan. Engineer was cool, informative, and a CLASS act. Amtrak should be proud of this man !!

Re: Cincinnati Northern remains in Jackson
Did the old Cincinnati Northern run through FT. Wayne Indiana?? Reason I ask is used to run to DANA Axle, in Ft.Wayne, and there was a RR that ran right next to the plant-- even had a spur to Dana, and I always wondered how far north it went.

When in grade school, used to watch alot of switching at the old GTW NOLAN YARD, on the east side of Detroit ,on Outer Drive behind the old Polish Century Club. GT used Alco switchers, with Blunt trucks, and the trains that worked at Nolan had old WOODEN cabooses, with ARCHBAR trucks. They were in p...

Re: CN Lake Orion Sub - The end finally???
I remember back when they were building/ installing the new track for this. Used to work for a large machine tool manufacturer in Warren, that had a plant in Lake Orion. Had to go up there at least twice a week, and would see all the rail construction machinery out there, to the east of Joslyn Road....
