Re: Jackson-Lansing Railroad

Owl, NS and CN do interchange cars at Lansing; if you scroll west on the map that you linked, you will go by the power plant and then see a small yard north of the CN main. I forget the name of this yard and in the photo there is a DWP car sitting on the interchange, which seems to be the majority o...

Re: Jackson-Lansing Railroad

Hmmmm.......I wonder what the A&B had to give NS for the rights to interchange with CSX?? I skimmed thru the documents; was there an agreement that allows the JAIL to interchange with CN?? Slightly amused that A&B's lawyer can't even spell Lapeer correctly---and they have a railroad operating out of...

Re: Yard design

Yep, I remember working East Wayne yard; the longest track held about 95 cars while you could only hang onto 30 cars when switching the east end of the yard without getting into the interlocking that protects the diamond and connecting tracks. The west end I believe you could handle around 40 if you...

Re: What-if?

When the bridge was built, the MN wasn't even a twinkle in your daddy's eye and the D&M only made it as far as Cheboygon; the PRR and the NYC were the players back then and whoever had the biggest presence probably would have been the prefered route south--which I'm guessing would have been the NYC ...

Ben, don't waste your time going to Willow Run; there is NOTHING going on there.................currently.

As for Wayne, maybe someone else can tell you, but from what I have seen, there are no public roads that give a good view of what's going on there.

Re: NICE AMTK vs CAR

Some of my old stompin' grounds; train is # 20, lady was plastered, turned down the tracks instead of the road running parallel to tracks, car ended up wrapped around front of engine and of course, it caught on fire and damaged the lead unit. The territory is quite curvy here, so the engineer didn't...

Re: Amtrak adds Michigan Line train!

Don't know where you guys have been hiding, but Amtrak HAS added cars to their trains. All the trains have added at least 2 cars to their consists, bringing the normal train size up to 6-8 cars instead of the 4-6 ; over the July 4th holiday period, 352 was running with 10 cars and I anticipate that ...

and account of that closure, Amtrak is adding the Michigan City stop for the trains that don't normally stop there when the South Shore is shut down on those weekends; Zack, if he wants to get into the Windy City, tell him to look up reservations on Amtrak.

Stop in at the office and check with them to find out. The people in the office are friendly and will answer your questions; that and with you checking in first, they won't be alarmed if they see you on the property and not run you off.
