Re: Michigan Railroad Whatifs

What if PC had decided to rebuild the MC line going north up to Bay City; you probably would have seen Conrail hanging on to it for the coal and chemical traffic with it being given to NS after the takeover.

Re: Amtrak Ballast in Michigan

There is even some of the pink ballast out there on the Amtrak line....

NS also gets some of their ballast from a quarry just south of Findley, Ohio along the line to Lima.

Re: NS 29E to sterling? run as needed?

Unless things have changed, there is no revenue from empty cars; perhaps CSX was smart in letting NS spend their dime on a non-revenue move by handing them off as soon as practicable for NS to position them where they were needed.

Re: Heads up Michigands (NS Michigan Line)

Well, you can't really count the cab car as all it is--is a shell. 49 had 3 units--probably 1 from the Boston section with 2 coming from NY and there was the 2 units for 29 and it's a whole lot easier to just couple the two trains together with power in the middle as opposed to switching all the pow...

No Stupidliners on the Wolverines today :D :D..... 350/355 had 2 units--26 and 29--and 5 cars today.... 352 had the 27, 5 cars and the 90218 I believe; this consist started out in St. Louis this morning, which Amtrak is continuing to send the consists every which way when they get into Chicago with ...

Re: Michigan Line 3/19 and GR/Kzoo

Nate, the Albion siding is not under the rusty rail rule; your train had a restricting signal to pull in behind the B16--who was working at the Ethanol plant--while a very late 350 held the pass until you got there, too many trains and not enough track :( :(

Re: NS updates 3/15-3/21

Yes, it was B34; there was 2 of them today account of the road train from Elkhart getting to Wayne late with the second one starting out in Jackson. That 52W dropped some cars in the south pass at Wayne, then ran back to Mort lite to get what looks like a unit train of mostly UP cars with some X-mar...

Hey Hogger, did you ever work out of Livernois?? Reason I ask is, some of the oldheads I work with said the guys used to race outta Townline to Wayne Jct. and who ever got there first would get the signal at Ypsi.

Re: RALSTON SWITCHING

CN spots the cars on the north side for Ralstons to spot at their leisure. A while back Ralstons had some of the swithes pulled for a couple of the spurs on the north side, pretty much only the south side gets the cars. The view from the bridge west of the plant lets you see quite a bit--can't remem...

Re: RALSTON SWITCHING

Ralstons' get their cars delivered by CN; all those UP and BNSF family cars are either going to Kelloggs' or Post. I don't know the answer to this question as I never saw the CR/NS train come in from Kal to switch BC proper, but to me it seems like the covered hopper traffic has picked up greatly si...

Either I&O started painting their bells the rust coating the Conrail used to put on their signal boxes, or that is the sorriest brass bell I have seen in a long time....Is this engine leased, or is it actually owned by the RA family??

O' Sage of the siding, are you refering to North Adams? If so, I don't know if HCRC ever made it out there; I can remember cars stored on the line behind the airport a LONG, LONG time ago and I think the NYC/PC served the feed mill and a lumber yard there--and the traffic wasn't very much at that......

Re: Martinrea (Former SKD) Jonesville, MI

nope, no rail spur there; I'm thinking that there was one some time ago that came off the Ft. Wayne and Jackson's original alignment along the southeast corner of the plant heading north. I know there's plenty of room on the backside to do some kind of spur. Any new business would be welcome to any ...

It wasn't the engine itself that went buns up, it was 3 out of the 4 traction motors.
