Re: Has anyone bought either a GE or EMD T4 locomotive the last 4 years?
The biggest issue with the Tier 4s from both GE and EMD is that they use more fuel than their Tier 3< cousins. They also require a bit more maintenance, from what I hear. They are also very expensive to purchase, which is why you are seeing most railroads elect to rebuild older locomotives and or b...

Re: Has anyone bought either a GE or EMD T4 locomotive the last 4 years?
This is in reply to Mr Collins. CSX leases those 10 units. UP bought some EMD T4s , I think most if most if not all are being stored. In fairness, that has as much to do with PSR as anything NS was going to buy some, opted for T3 credit units. I think it was interesting were either given, or they fo...

Re: Has anyone bought either a GE or EMD T4 locomotive the last 4 years?
Well, I guess we can all feel better now that private enterprise cannot make or sell new locomotives in the US due over stringent regulations no one wants to fool with. But hey, we can all go to the local bus garage and breath deep.

Has anyone bought either a GE or EMD T4 locomotive the last 4 years?
Word is they ride great and pull great. Bad news, they are very expensive to buy and maintain which inflates operation costs. T4 regulations is what happens when too many kids in the 90s watched too much Captain Planet. I don't see anyone buying the current T4s given PSR and all the rebuilding progr...

Re: North Carolina
If someone would forward this to whoever edits the CSX Train ID section of the Wiki,........... The Former CSX F 793, Mt Holly - Lincolnton switcher is now IDd as an L 656. The CSX Charlotte Sub was as close to congested between Charlotte and Monroe as it has been in years. The Chief is stopping eve...

Re: Some questions about railfanning in Ohio
And I did, the 14th and 15th. It was a rather hastily planned outing but went well/ On the way up I (the 13th) caught 4 trains in the Bluefield WV area on the Ex N&W mainline. I spent most of that day letting my puppies sniff new ground. They had a ball. On the 14th I caught a lot of NS at Elyria. I...

Re: Some questions about railfanning in Ohio
Thank You very much. Yes, Greenwich Oh is definitely on my to railfan list, a priority even . I've heard one can catch a couple W&LE trains if they're lucky running. That would be the Carey Sub, if I'm not mistaken which I could be. The Hartland sub goes through Wellington. I caught a W&LE manifest ...

Some questions about railfanning in Ohio
First, a preface. I've been to Ohio a few times. Man, it's a great state to railfan in. I've spent time in Mingo Jct, Alliance, Berea, Brewster, Spencer, Elyria, and Wellington. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. How much traffic does the CSX New Castle Sub host now a days? How much traffic could one expe...

Re: North Carolina
221 was abolished and it's consist was combined with NS 265. NS 222 wasn't abolished, just cut back to twice a week. 264 also runs to Charlotte. The last few weeks, 222 has been running 3 to 4 times a week, that i hear on the scanner anyways.
221 now runs from East Point Ga to Jacksonville Fla.

Re: Railroadfan.com Spring Meet 2022 Deshler OH
I was planning an Ohio trip at the End of of May. Given current circumstances, I doubt this will happen. I'd have to mortgage my home to pay for the gas to get from NC to Ohio.

Another NS 222 This morning. On CSX, an X 400 manifest train took the Monroe Sub 3-2-22. Not sure what the deal is with this, or where X 400 ended up running to.

Looks like NS 222 is running more than twice a week from Atlanta to Charlotte. I heard them talking to the Charlotte Dispatcher around 23:00 last night.

David, saw a Dash 9 (9031) on Q 652 this morning. Looked like CSX cleaned it up a little too.

Re: North Carolina
Salisbury isn't what it used to be, but still worth spending a few days catching trains. In the daylight this time of year, you can expect to Catch Amtrak trains 80, 73, 74, 75, 76, and 77. 78 and 79 will probably run after sunset. 19 and 20 run in the early mornings before sunrise. Intermodals: 203...
