Re: Plans for a new wye in Traverse City
The lumber company in Williamsburg does also receive boxcar loads. But, they have the wye in Cadillac like Raildude's dad says plus one on the lead to the Traverse City branch (Walton Junction). They used the TC wye a month or two ago to turn a locomotive, and ocassionally to turn the snow plow. Ver...

Re: Plans for a new wye in Traverse City
No, AARR, it does not, except to say it's used to change direction of a "train". The city first wanted to leave the existing one, but that would result in 4 new grade crossings. The MDOT says if you add a crossing you have to remove a crossing. So, the city offered land in the Airport Industrial Par...

Plans for a new wye in Traverse City
See link for plans for a new wye on the Grawn branch about a mile south of Rifken scrap yard. Existing one in boardman yard would be torn out to make room for a new road. Looks like MDOT approved plans (see very last pages for details and very first pages (middle pages are old 2004 documents). City ...

Re: GLC on TC branch
Square deal on Woodmere used to get boxcars of feed in the early 90's. I remember Red Mill north of Boardman yard also getting cars. And Wicke's in Grawn. Longest trains I rememember was in the 90's TSBY brought in 15 reefers for Cherry Growers. And in the 90's twice a 33 car ballast train came into...

Re: GLC on TC branch
GLC also took all the storage cars from Boardman Yard back south with them. No more "eyesore" for the condo owners! Would have been a nice 16 car train to video on the TC branch!

GLC on TC branch
There is a train on the Traverse City branch (actually now on Williamsburg branch. MIGN Todd, KC, where are your cameras. Maybe they'll move the storage cars today! I personally would just paint them bright yellow/green and leave them there.

Re: Stored Cars in TC (NIMBY!)
I'd like to comment again on all this, but I'm busy writing Delta, United, and American Airlines to complain that their jets taking off and landing at the Traverse City airport fly right over my house, and I don't like the noise or having to look at them. If they could move their flight path a mile ...

Re: Stored Cars in TC (NIMBY!)
AARR, the commuter cars were NOT touched at all in Grawn. busy US-31 25ft on one side and swamp on the other side. The cars in TC now have been valdalized quote a bit (paint) since put where they are in TC- a high valdalism area.

Re: Stored Cars in TC (NIMBY!)
the cars are all GLC-owned cars. I have to wonder if they were placed there to tick someone off in the first place. North yard in Cadillac if more than half empty, plenty of room there for storage, and sidings in Manton, Summit City, etc but they had to put them in front of the condos in TC. I think...

However, that track looks like the finest track on the MAW, doesn't it? Way better than pics of their other track on this thread!

Cherry Growers question for Mr. TSB or someone
Back in the early 90's, there were a couple covered hoppers on one of the Cherry Grower's spurs. I noticed this morning that the one spur has a small pit under the tracks, where it looks like a conveyer would slide under to unload a hopper. Mr. TSB, were you with TSBY back then, and might you rememb...

Re: GLC with 'attitude' in Traverse again today
MIGN-Todd, next time offer him a bottle of Coke or a couple coffees for him and the engineer. Flatter him with niceness. Just dont tell him he looks nice in that outfit, you know... Also, Todd, are they still doing track work on the Williamsburg branch? Maybe they had track equipment on the runaroun...

Re: GLC with 'attitude' in Traverse again today
I can vouch for the CEO being friendly, and he has always (seemingly anyway) appreciated heads up from me regarding blocked tracks, etc. I've also known Ray from the GTDT days. I have noticed that the crews up here refuse to wave if you wave at them (and no, I don't "chase" them crossing to crossing...
