Re: Plymouth is now busy again??
I think LSRC stations a road crew in Wixom, takes their mixed freight to Flint, turns and goes back. There is a switcher in Flint that works two shifts. The day shift goes to Atwood M, W & F and to Wixom T & Th. On the way back it works into GTW Flint Yard. From there the night crew heads back to L...

Re: Plymouth is now busy again??
Hey all. Glad to see this site still kicking...haven't been on in about 8 years, since I moved out of MI. Still head back to MI once or twice a year and got thinking about Plymouth rail scene. Good to see there's still some life. But question....saw elsewhere that LSRC has taken over operations nort...

Re: Switching Private Cars at Ann Arbor
Thanks for the info. I know the people with the private cars have so much money that it probably isn't a blip on their radar, but that's a lot of time and energy to get what I perceive as an inferior travel experience. Sure, there's nostalgia and variation with train travel, but $1600 (plus probably...

Re: Switching Private Cars at Ann Arbor
One thing I've always wondered....and probably won't get an honest or correct answer...how much for these people with the private cars have to pay Amtrak to latch on? I imagine it has to be something quite ridiculous.

To the extent of my cognizance, the pigmentation of a rail transportation device is wholly dependent upon the individual wishes of the proprietor(s).

Re: Michigan State University Coal Power Plant
You mean that stack is gone? Man that sucks it looks so cool. Yup. Taken down summer of 2011. It was really cool to see it from the stadium. The bricks were sold off. The stack and the power plant building are no longer standing. End thread hijack. Sorry, it just brings a bit of nostalgia and it go...

Re: Michigan State University Coal Power Plant
Anyone willing to provide an aerial shot of where the siding that displayed 1225 used to sit? I have always been curious about that. All I know is it used to be tied into the Power Plant spur. http://railroadfan.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10286/MSU_Power_Plant-NOW.jpg Ah the smokestack. I miss tha...

Re: Your favorite railroad book
This is probably gonna be a lame answer, but my favorite is and will always be 'Train Song' by Diane Siebert. My mom used to read that to me when I was young and it is one of the reasons for my love of trains. I'll never forget that book.

iPhone v. train....WHO YA GOT!?
Yea...shouldn't be too big of a surprise. Also, CNet dives into the illegality of this situation a bit. I am in no way condoning this action, but it's pretty hilarious that people willingly submit iPhones to this kind of destruction.

Re: NKP 765 locations/ heads up
Posted in another thread but may as well here, too. Anyone know how much longer 765 will be in Michigan? I'm in California, sadly, so I won't be able to see it. My dad, on the other hand, has taken several shots of her in the past and, I'm sure, would love to again given the opportunity. Thanks for ...

Anybody know how much longer 765 will be in Michigan? Sadly I'm in California so I definitely won't be able to catch it but my dad has taken some great shots of it in the past and may be interested in doing so again if there's an opportunity. Thanks.

Re: It Doesn't Get Much Better Then This. 765 and more
Hey guys. Great report. Very sad that I'm no longer in MI and missed her. That's one chase I've been dying to take.
Pardon my lack of knowledge on this, but why is 765 able to run solo on a Class 1 (Wabash) but not on a shortline (AA)?

Re: Amtrak Service from GR to Detroit?
Have had confirmation that TEST trains will be in August, so I presume Alex there has been trackage upgrades at the new GR Union station to accommodate these trains. Confirmation from where? I've heard a rumor going around for test trains as well. Very recently, the train station in Plymouth (One o...

Cajon Pass, CA
This video is way late, but oh well. This is the first time I've done video with my new camera, so I'm sure some stuff is not quite as good as I'd like it to be (i.e. really windy for the Surfliner). Spent a Saturday running up from San Diego to the Cajon Pass, just north of San Bernardino, CA. Prob...

Re: HARSCO RAIL Spreader/Ditcher with MQT 2004
Well a second? one, for BNSF, came down a few days ago...and I found this on YouTube from the first one. It is a video from HARSCO, and was shot on the Mighty Marquette during testing: GZHaO1kvnDk Best part of the video is easily when it mows down a wooden birdhouse at the end of the film. They cou...

Re: How to edit out crossing bell chimes?
 I feel like a stupid now. I had never heard of these self-shutting-off bell crossings so I made a faulty assumption I shouldn't have. Thanks for the heads up, guys. So far, I'm loving the camera. JT, I upgraded from a 50D. Haven't noticed a ton of difference in image quality but the added aspe...

Re: How to edit out crossing bell chimes?
Are you talking about the bell stopping after sounding for a couple seconds? Because if you are tere are many crossings where the bells only turn on when the gates are going down and sometimes up too. If you actually know they are editing out the bell, I'm not sure of that is possible without causi...

How to edit out crossing bell chimes?
In a lot of today's youtube videos, photographers have been able to edit silent the chimes of crossing bells. I'm just going to be starting shooting video with my new 70D I received for Christmas, and I would like to do this but I'm not sure how to. All my video editing will be taking place in Apple...
