Re: CSX Train Location Updates August - 2024
Y121 engine 2680 sounds like they are heading up the Fremont Sub toward Tlout at 09:30. Radio chatter suggests they will be working the Dock Track in the early afternoon.

Private Varnish coming up to Grand Rapids
IMG_6212.jpeg And you can buy tickets for the Chicago-Grand Rapids leg, too. Both cars are destined for the Indiana Rail Experience fall excursions. They’re going by freight to the INER at Montpelier on the Wabash, but the route must be convoluted. CSX to NS at Detroit? Grand Elk to NS at Kalamazoo...

Re: GDLK Operations
Seeing a Michigan-bound Grand Elk train pass by the Elkhart depot camera a little after 08:00 this morning prompted me to think of the following question: Other than at CP Park and Cowling in Three Rivers, what, if any, Conrail era signals still stand along the Grand Elk line from there south to Elk...

Re: AMAZING 1st generation K5LA horn action from Amtrak P42 #61 in Pontiac!
Nice video David, and you are right, the K5LA horn action is excellent. Once upon a time, the cheerily-toned K5LA was synonymous with Amtrak F40s and everything else sounded different. Now it’s rare in so many places to hear anything other than a K5LA!

Sounds like MQT NB , no visual. At least we agreed on something. I heard train horns in Grand Rapids around 2:53pm too. Marquette was northbound at 6 mile at 2:10 with 102 cars as seen in this video from thhe Rousche Druve crossing. https://youtu.be/Vmeag_vi8Ak Great video of their entire train, St...

Z627 Michigan Shore interchange shoving back into Waverly Yard Holland with the MMRR 2019 LHF with 6 tanks and 3 shortie covered hoppers. It looked like a decent line of covered hoppers in the yard perhaps for them to take back north. Y121 is somewhere around Holland but I’m not sure where.

Re: Union Station Railfanning
So I'm going to Chicago on the 14th, we are taking Amtrak out of Waterloo to Chicago. We plan on spending a bit at the Roosevelt St overpass for some action in the yard to see some Dash 8's and heritage units. Later on we are gonna move up to N Canal St right there on the curve at the north entranc...

Providence & Worcester power laying over for the weekend in Middletown, CT just north of the diamond included B39-8 3907 and B40-8 4003. The 39 is in the traditional P&W red and black but the 40 has had the G&W orange dip. 6 shortie covered hoppers were south of the diamond and a cut of coil cars wa...

Re: IORY Flat Rock Turn Video's
Railfan Brett Railfanning shows a few videos of IORY's Delta Yard Job and Flat Rock Turns as well as other IORY trains. Thank you for sharing this AARR! Not only does it do a good job of documenting the transition from elder EMD power to the latest GE G&W acquisitions, it does a good job depicting ...

CN steamer 1395 cosmetic restoration at Coopersville
Was anyone on the board involved with this project? It’s an impressive effort to turn a total eyesore into a nice showpiece for the village and the railroad. I’m looking forward to heading up to check it out sometime soon. Watch the video, you can see they recently added details like number boards a...

184 was the 3rd unit westbound on the Lake Shore Limited arriving in Chicago this morning, still very much wearing her 184 number and, at least from the exterior, looking unchanged. Destination Beech Grove.

Re: Plymouth & GR sub-div Work
Anyone have any new updates on the track rehab and aggregate facilities reopening at Livingston on the GR Subdivision? Nothing of note lately. Ties were apparently replaced, all the track was uncovered from sand buildup over the years and nothing had happened since early spring on site. Thank you b...

Re: Y121 Causes a Traffic Jam
I remember this day! I was stuck near the back of the backup down on River near 17th street. It didn’t even occur to me that Y121 might be the culprit until I later navigated all the way around to the Amtrak station seeking to use one of the small numbered streets to get back to River when I spied Y...
