Re: WOW!!Freight train conductor killed in N.O. robbery

My brother knew a guy who worked for a Class I who came into Chicago regularly. The guy always carried a weapon. His attitude was he could lose his job or he could lose his life. The job was less important.

Re: Rails To Trails Question

Or to look at it another way, there's reasons why those routes became available for trails in the first place - and having viable customers wasn't one of them. Prairie Path in the west 'burbs of Chicago - former CAE interurban, replaced by automobiles and virtually all communities are serviced by M...

Re: Autopsies planned for two bodies found near railroad tracks

They usually do autopsies on even what appear to be "vanilla" cases. The victims might have been dead before they were shot in the head. Unlikely but a possible attempt to throw the cops off like chopping off the head, hands and feet. (I used to work with an ex-CPD homicide detective. THAT guy had s...

Re: UP Global 4 Thread

Be interesting to see the CN's receptiveness to allowing other carriers access to the EJE around the city. With the CN's ownership of the EJE, it may result in more capacity developing on the IHB, as the CN shifts traffic around. Practice Safe CSX My significant other lives within easy sight of the...

Thank you, sir.

I see you're in Champaign. Gotta love that ex-IC line paralleling Neil Street - saw some cool stuff when I was down there a couple of weeks ago...

ex-CNW line from Escanaba to the mines?

My grandparents lived just east of the CNW ore line in Rock but it's been many years since I've been in the UP. What's the status of the ex-CNW line to Palmer Mine, etc? UP sold it to WC and then it was absorbed into CN? Does CN run the old CNW ore jennies to the docks in Escanaba or have they all b...

Re: UP Global 4 Thread

Bump this thread... and hijack it a little... I drove under Canal Street Yard yesterday and it looked pretty busy - several UP engines sitting on the east side of the yard. Do UP trains run up to Canal from Yard Center? If so, how? I don't see a clear shot on UP rails on my IDOT RR map. And if not, ...

N Clyde intermodal yard?

What's the story with the northside IM yard at Clyde Yard in Cicero? I used to ride BNSF / METRA daily and while the north side wasn't very busy compared to the southside, it looked completely dead a few days ago. Cutback due to the recession?

Thanks!

Re: BNSF signal bridge replacements

The old signal bridge at West Naperville is still up and intact. Or at least it was Wednesday morning. No sign of MOW / Signal Dept folks around here...
