353 Incident outside of Kal
Anybody have any details with what happened with 353 on Sat afternoon outside of KAL with it hitting a trespasser; one RUMOR I heard was that the guy was a railfan taking photos, any news would be appreciated.

Re: Granholm to talk high-speed rail in Jackson on Monday
Amen to that!!!! I can verify the heat; last night we were pretty much on time everywhere until we were coming into PTH, the dispatcher tells us that because 394 is too long and blocking the switch into main 4--so we can get into the station--and a way too long 393 is to come thru the tunnel first b...

Re: NS michigan (8-14-09)
Exactly my point--MORON--and to think that there is the cop shop right beside her too; of course, the only time I have seen the Mattawan po-po was when I waxed the girl who ran the gates on a crossing just east of here.

that depends on how big the train is, how fast it was going, weather and rail conditions, brake conditions, just a whole lot of variables...

Re: NS michigan (8-14-09)
Owl, you are going on the assumption that the right-of-way is 50 ft. wide--which some are and some are not; myself, I would rather not see anybody on the r-o-w--'cause there are people who just aren't smart enough to get out of the way of that big thingee coming down the tracks. Everyday I go by peo...

That detector got 352 and 355 yesterday with false readings too; when I came thru on 354 later on that night, there were maintainers working on it and it didn't get a false reading

The switch to this spur was pulled when CN put down the CWR on #1 last year.

Re: Amtrak's International
Yes, I would like to see it come back as a second train in this sevice lane; however, there needs to be some improvements made for this service: 1. Amtrak and VIA need to get their reservation computers hooked up together for this train--and I imagine all international service trains-- instead of se...

Re: Exploding GEVO's - recall issue
I agree about the SD50s' and you could say the same about the 60s' series also--at least on the NS; on more than one train I was on we had 3 or 4 GP60s' and we would pull faster than some of the 6 axles as long as the rail was dry. Sometimes bigger isn't always better; I think if somebody was to bui...

NS and CN pretty much had the same bulletin out, but theirs said not to walk by on the walkway when the engine was in notch 1 or higher.

Why couldn't it run up the Wabash to Detroit and then get handed off to CSX??? Isn't there a connection to run between Oakwood and Rougemere that transfers between the two yards use?? Seems like it would be a whole lot quicker going directly to Detroit than running east then north thru Toledo out of...

Re: Scheduled Railroad with Worst Ontime Record
And here I was thinkin' that my railroad had that 'honor'..... To me, it seems HH was more interested in running those 10,000ft monsters on the mainline than the little trains that need to deliver the cars when needed (scheduled??); perhaps he forgot that while the railroad needs customers, the cust...

I've never seen a CN po-po there either when I walk across the tracks to go get ice cream   That being said, I've seen my fair share of IDIOTS crossing the tracks right in front of me when I come in for the station stop; I keep waiting for the day when somebody trips over the rail while ...

Re: AMTK 350 terminating at Ann Arbor 353 car train fatal
Not me, but I did end up moving the equipment that was taken to Dearborn to Pontiac later that night; the engine involved is sitting in the south pass track at Wayne Jct, I couldn't see if anything is damaged on the front of it when I went by it tonight. NS was still doing checks of the crossing equ...
