Re: History of the ROW From Niles to Jackson

Check out this Arial from Lime Lake near Spring Arbor. Appears to be footings for a large dock. If there was a barge for loading railcars or even a "ferry" with an apron... would be neat to see some photos of it. https://www.google.com/maps/@42.1873524,-84.5537942,88m/data=!3m1!1e3 <iframe src="http...

After the rain ended, grabbed some photos... (apologize... from a moving car). Re: Grand Elk construction in Moline

In related news... Hamilton Farm Bureau is opening a liquid fertilizer unloading facility in Wayland at the site of the old pipe transload siding. This is about a mile south of Wayland. Looks like they have capacity to unload about 16 cars at once. Appears to be a few months away from opening. Sound...

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming

Sad to hear this but I guess this line has been lucky to last past the early 80s. Here's a few photos I took in 2008 when WM pulled some old CN boxcars out of storage in Paw Paw. I'm pretty certain this was the last train on the line. I had a broken cell phone camera with me as I just happened to be...

Re: Future Passenger Rail Routes?

Moving slightly off Michigan, but I've always wondered why there isn't a straight Amtrak route from Chicago or Detroit to Florida. I know there used to be one years ago, but was it not viable? I sat on I-75 coming back from Florida for about 4 hours and moved maybe 40 miles last year during spring b...

Re: Michigan Rails question

I think I'd have to say portions of the Adrian & Blissfield are part of the original first line in Michigan that are still in use today. Of course in 1836 when it opened it used horses for power so maybe doesn't really count? http://www.michiganrailroads.com/RRHX/Timeline/1830s/TimeLine1836.htm 1836...

Re: GRAND ELK 302 DERAIL

Otsego Paper gets a lot of those railbox cars. Hopefully they were empty and heading to Otsego and not the other way around. I didn't hear if this was a north or southbound.

Re: Hamilton Farm Bureau Co-op

Memory from then doesn't include the road number... but it'd be cool to know if that engine ever went to Allegan. If it was still in passenger service in 1971, it's probably unlikely as I think it was 1972 that the Allegan branch was cut back to Hamilton. There probably was a huge pool of older GP7/...

Re: Hamilton Farm Bureau Co-op

BTW.....Engine number is 6066, pretty close the C&O6088 I rode on these tracks back over 30 years ago :D Bob/C&O6088 Except 30 years ago, CSX 6066 was C&O 4167... Thanks Mr. Tops......wonder if you can trace the old C&O6088 anywhere? It was a tall hooded engine GP9, here's a link I found via...

Re: The Great NKP 765 Chase- Owosso to Alma

Rode the train to Alma and took this vid of the photo runby. It was a bit wet but not bad and I forgot my camera... :!: but this cell phone video turned out almost better than my camera did in this kind of light.

Something like this? Probably too big for any lake ports but an interesting thought.

Re: Coal dealer on the grand elk?

Caught it leaving Botsford for Pfizer this morning. It nearly stalled on the grade near Miller Rd and Cork. Probably around 50 coal and another 10 or so tanks and boxcars. Here's a cell video:
