Re: Stroh's Complex in Detroit

The complex was rather large... it encompassed the 1300 block of Maple... and the area from the freeways to Gratiot Ave. So, I suppose Russell St and Gratiot Ave. would be the intersection. I was trying to find Sanborne fire maps online earlier, I need to try through my library(maybe they have acces...

Stroh's Complex in Detroit

So can anyone tell me whether the old Stroh's plant at 375 & 75 ever had rail service? seems like with the amount of product they handled it would be a lot of tuck traffic... the "cut" GTW north south line was a stones throw from there, but I see no geographical evidence that the rails changed eleva...

Re: Jackson-Lansing Railroad

Wow that Peter Thompson guy seems to be a bit of a blow hard, obviously union... I love how in his bad grammar he told the board to: "Do not hold water." ..... Ah.... Scotch and soda in your glass from now on boys, by advisement of Mr. Thompson. And before anyone says that I'm anti-union, my grandfa...

Re: Jackson-Lansing Railroad

Speaking of sounds! If you get to hear the horn on 1419... Wow, dreadful, sounds like something dying! Not the old conrail horn. All four locos were in mason today, 1760 sitting by the antiques barn, 1758 & 1443 at American fuel siding and 1419 at mason box! I got photos of 1758 & 1443 (nothing else...

Re: Jackson-Lansing Railroad

I've heard as of earlier today, that 1760, 1758, and 1443 are all parked in north mason, just north of north st.
Great photo op!
But please don't go climbing around on the locos or trespassing we don't want ADBF get pissed at us.

Re: Turnouts on our new layout

First if you are not using snap track/eazy-track (atlas, kato, bachmann) I would recommend allowing enough room in the curves for passenger equipment or anything over 60ft long(i.e. 22 and 25 inch Rad track). If that is the size equipment you'll be using I would recommend #6 at least entering and exit...

Re: Ann Arbor Railroad

AARR, the pig iron furnace was the round house. You know how part of it is square, and how it's built into a hill? Well the square part was the furnace, and they built it into a hill so they could feed wood down into the kilns. The road that goes up be hind the round house was the old ROW. I thought...

Re: Ann Arbor Railroad

I find laying 180 deg curves with flex track in anyrail to be frustrating, So I don't... But the sizing is easy, grab one end and click n drag it to the length you want, if it acts up slide the crosshairs into the path of the rail until the piece is strait. If I turns brown, you stretched it to long...

Re: CN Updates 1/9 - 1/15

CN train came through East Lansing about 11:40 E B two 6 axle units and only 4 count em 4 cars! What was it? Why so light? Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this, I just couldn't decern what it was from the reports.

Re: Ann Arbor Railroad

@dhock I have anyrail, and there are two things you can do to work with the free version... One, divide your layout into segments, and work each segment as separate documents. Two, avoid using 9"(in HO) track segments, instead use flex track. This cuts down on the number of pieces used in total. Oh ...

Re: Jackson-Lansing Railroad

So by keeping an ear to the ground and fortuitous travels I have a lead on what JAILs new motive power will be... It's a GP 15 from LTEX, just got dropped in Endsle yard earlier today(wed)! I spotted it on csx at i496 behind two CN monsters(and not a single csx loco) this afternoon. When I got home ...

Re: Breaking News!! Durand Derailment

All today there has been a 10mph slow order on the site, with horn and bell orders as well, there was also an order for caution at the pitssfield Ed crossing, CN had flagmen in place all day.
I gathered this from the durand radio feed chatter.

Goodness, I hope that the people in the first car got out, I would doubt the passengers in the second car are likely to have sustained fatal injuries from the details the accident.

Thanks for keeping us informed CN_Okemos!

Mind you this is second hand. Maybe third.

Great start, enjoy.
I have got two words for you though.... Prototypical speed. It adds a lot to even the best layout. Maybe it's just the video playback, not trying to criticize, just offer feedback. Welcome to the dark side! --errr I mean N scale!

great! I like the idea with the calendar, I've got to use that idea on my layout. Ive thought about starting a blog about the operations when it's up and running.
