Very entertaining travelogues for those of us rail-minded... also he's a US Coast Guard-vet that was stationed in the Soo for a time.

Re: New law makes it illegal to point lasers at trains
Michigan no longer has a law that forbids scanners in automobiles or anywhere else, even if they can get police frequencies. Indiana, on the other hand, does have the rule against mobile scanners. However combine lack of enforcement with out-of-state plates, and I think a railfan who isn't doing an...

Bad wreck for sure, but I guess we can all be glad it wasn't a unit oil or ethanol train. At least coal doesn't explode after impact.

Re: BART riders attacked & robbed by "youths"
Sounds like it's time for all decent folks to carry some protection, and USE it when events like this happen. Garry K Yeah, but 40-60 hoodlums? Unless you're armed with an M-60, a full can of ammo and a few Claymore's you're likely to get overrun by that many 'hoods. Once the survivors get you and ...

Re: Did I miss this announcement? if not.. MARQUETTE SD40-2
I pinged Bowser by email a while back - asking for 3390 and 3391 in their GMD Canadian-line of SD40-2 locomotives, both in MQT and HESR sublettering. The response I got back from Lee English seemed positive - perhaps in the third run, now in planning stages. Hopefully Intermountain's move won't dera...

Re: Death of a model railroader.
A co worker came to me last week and tells me a friend of hers uncle has passed away. And in the basement was full of trains and she has no clue on what to do with it. Hundreds of cars lots of engines, mostly older stuff. Shes overwhelmed and wants it to go altogether vs piece by piece. Any advice ...

John, You're right, my bad... Wenona Yard is correct - must be my maternal Minnesota roots showing themselves. If not PC recollections anyone have memories of GTW operations before the sale to CMGN? How about current HESR operations? This just seems to be a very model-genic yard, not too big to shri...

Re: Siemens SC-44 Chargers - Michigan Edition
Michigan also pays less to Amtrak if they use their own equipment, so there is that incentive for MDOT to use the Chargers on all their trains. peter Now if we could just get new coaches, business class and cafe cars... sigh. Having the Chargers at the point may improve reliability as far as power ...

Winona Yard in Bay City, Mich.
Rather than double-post I wrote this in another board http://members4.boardhost.com/RRHXHistory/msg/1488988953.html looking for info on yard operations at this northern Detroit Division terminal of the Penn Central, later GTW's Saginaw Sub following Conrail Day. If anyone has insight they can share ...

Just to update this railroad is getting built in 1:87 scale in my 13'x27' basement "man-cave"... er, layout room. More to come as track design, engineering and ROW work progresses from Winona Yard, Bay City, Mich. over to Midland and down to Zilwaukee (or thereabouts). The DM&M Ry. - the Marquette R...

Re: CN Pontiac-Orion Line Operations
Maybe the dray costs to CSX New Boston are getting expensive, and making all-rail from CN Orion to the ports more attractive (for export Bolts, aka Opel's). It also just dawned on me one of the reasons for the dray move south is CN didn't want to be short-hauled with interchange to CSX in Toledo. Th...

Re: Amtrak Dispatching of MI Line
Looks like Amtrak modernized things. One of the towers used to have the panel for the AML. I think it was 21st street or Lumber. I believe the Michigan Line Porter-K'zoo was initially dispatched from a model board in the Michigan City drawbridge tower - later being moved to CUS per the Train Direct...
