Re: Time Machine for a Day

First choice would be the Milwaukee Road Pacific Coast extension mainline west of Terry, MT - before the March '80 embargo. Ideally I'd like to ride the Olympian Hiawatha between Chicago and Tacoma, WA both ways. The Erie-Lackawanna West End through Ohio and Indiana is a close second. Bonus entry is...

That is one of the best RR reads I've ever seen... awesome story by that CSX hogger. I wish them all well.

Re: ABS Signal System

I thought I read somewhere that ISS was shutting down - owner retiring. Perhaps I read that wrong, but you might want to Google them to see if that comes up anywhere. If this becomes more than "vapor-ware" it should be an interesting step: http://www.dwnewman.com/AmazingRailroadSignals/index.html No...

Re: The Hoosier State

Nice job on the piece, Drayton - and what a nice train. I've got to get an excuse to take the train to Indy sometime - the long way via CUS, instead of the shorter drive down I-69. Hmmm... company office is in Columbus, IN - maybe need to make a business trip soon. Can alway rent the car downtown. 8)

Re: Amtrak departures from Pontiac

There's a derail at the fouling-point on the north-end of the Pontiac station sidings, just before the manual switch on the mainline. I don't think there is any derails on the south end towards the control-point at MAL Junction, at least I haven't seen one. Prior to departure they pull the consist n...

Nice plan - a lot of railroading in a small room, and doesn't look cramped either.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jimthias/Trains/signal-4397.jpg Abandoned somewhere? I don't see the tracks/grade in the photo - either left or right of the signal - but can't help but notice the "tree" directly in front of the target. ;) Neat photo nonetheless. There used to be an abandoned f...

Re: Model Layout Design Software Question

Is there any layout design software for MAC OS? All I've found is this: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/railmodeller-pro/id952380304?mt=12 In that vein once you're layout is up and running here is a decent car routing program: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/switchlist/id550383737?mt=12 Not much el...

Re: Signal Photographs

Sort of like TriCityRailfan here is my sole signal - a US&S "early-style" position-light dwarf, as favored by the Pennsy: http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m588/dmitzel/prr_pot_zpse2e97ada.jpg It fits nicely on one of our end-tables in our den, despite the weight (+200 lbs. of cast-iron) and is qu...

Re: Lapeer Railfanning

Since Lapeer is a through station, and Durand is a true junction (with a yard) definitely the latter wins this. In Durand you have the Holly sub joining the Flint sub via westward and eastward wyes. You also have the Great Lakes Central (former AA) passing through the diamond, and Huron & Eastern co...

Fostoria Train Show - opinions?

Gents, Thinking of making the drive down to F-town to the train show this coming Saturday. I have a bunch of NIB HO scale MTH, Broadway Ltd, Intermountain, P2K, etc. that have been gathering dust in their boxes, and need to thin the herd (collection). Never been to Fostoria on festival weekend - is ...

Never was painted in Bluebird - no WAB switchers were. Just basic black with some yellow on the handrails.

Let us know when you get it uploaded on YouTube - nice to see traffic picking up on the old PRR Ft. Wayne line.

I try to limit my "dose" of sliders to twice a year or thereabouts. Got to watch that stuff when you hit your 40s but... are they good! I also try to avoid the Castles in the rough neighborhoods - either can be hazardous to your health and longevity ;)

Re: New Grand Rapids AMTK Station Construction Finally Under

Red over lunar is a pretty common restricting indication - seen it on BNSF as well. The western roads like the lunar aspect (or flashing red) for a restricting indication, versus the red over yellow (NORAC and older rules) pattern often used in the East. Restricting is a permissive display to enter ...

Re: MRHS Fall Show

Lapeer was a real dud. Only four or five dealers, maybe 15 tables. The spring show is much better I agree - big disappointment when I walked in at 1:30. The empty parking lot was the first sign of trouble. At least the weren't charging at the door - I would have been p***ed had I paid to see a half...
