Roll Call for interlocking towers in Michigan

I haven't seen this topic addressed lately. I live in Battle Creek, the only active interlocking tower I am aware of is BO Tower in Kalamazoo. I'm guessing there are a few around the Detroit area, but I don't know. Anyone here know of an active, manned, Interlocking tower in Michigan, let's start a ...

Re: Andy Griffiths passes away

As long as we are on the old TV shows, how about "Gilligans Island"? What a hoot that was. Professor could make a radio out of a cocoanut, but couldn't patch the hole in the boat... 1960's TV at it's finest!

Popeye? Wow, now THERE'S some old memories! Haven't seen that since the mid '70's. I remember Wimpey, "I'll gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today".

Re: Andy Griffiths passes away

Remember the one where Aunt Bea made her pickles? (Kerosene Cucumbers)? That's gotta' be one of my favorites. Only to be outdone by the one where Barney buys that old military surplus motorcycle! LOL!!!! But they are all good! Yep, wouldn't mind heading to Mayberry right about now. Maybe even stop i...

Re: Andy Griffiths passes away

You younger guys don't know what you're missing! Catch a few old reruns of "The Andy Griffith Show" sometime. Don Knotts and Andy Griffith were one of the best comedy combos ever. Don't bother with the later episodes though, After Knotts left the show it went downhill fast. And, after Griffith left,...

Re: Coleman Lanterns...

Deal of the year!!! I stopped at a yard sale on the 4th and was browsing around when a lady asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. I replied, "got any old Coleman lanterns?" She said she would look in the garage. A minute or so later she appeared with a tightly wrapped in clean towels...

No DCC yet. As I say, I'm not a "high tech" kind of guy. As for an operation plan it goes like this, grab cold beer, grab throttle knob, relax. :)

Re: Who wants an Ore Dock?

Well, I'm sure that someone put in a TON of hours building that thing. I can certainly relate to that! My guess is that was on the layout of a deceased person. (Estate Sale). I want to make sure my layout doesn't end up that way. Since I have no direct heirs, I need to deed this to some club or muse...

Re: When GTW 1776 Visited Columbiaville, MI

Yeah, that was a really nice thing that GTW did. Too bad that line was in such bad shape after PC ran it into the ground. Back in the day, NYC Hudsons ran passenger trains through there at 80 mph! I guess bicycles at 2 mph is better than tall weeds and trees though.....

Re: ANN ARBOR / GTW HO

No, I don't have the tech. knowledge to do all this internet video stuff. I am REALLY old school. I suppose I could try to figure it out, but I spend my free time trying to get the results you have seen on those videos that my friend has posted for me. That's how I enjoy the hobby. I always welcome ...

Re: The Amcab project

Hey Ypsi, I have a set of some amfleet/walthers F-40-PH here that belongs to a friend that is no longer interested in model railroading. It doesn't fit MY era, So it probably is surplus.. I'll have to check with him first, but I'm sure he'd sell them cheap. Let me know if you are interested.

Coleman Lanterns...

I suppose that some of us rail enthusiasts also enjoy camping/hunting/other outdoor activities.. I have recently adopted another hobby. I have started to restore old Coleman Gas Lanterns. This all started when I picked up a very old Coleman lantern at a garage sale a few months ago. It didn't work, ...

Re: Stupid Question - rail ferries

Mr. Simon nailed it. All about the labor cost/vs/ effective spending. 20-30 maritime union seamen moving 20-25 cars across the lake /vs/ 100-150 car trains going right along the tracks to Chicago. Yep, faster going "All-Rail", and certainly less expensive too. Sure, I miss the old ferries, but I als...

You know, I really hated those things when they first started showing up here in Michigan, but like all railfans, since they have been gone for 20 or so years, I guess I kind of miss them... Go figure.... Anyway, Neat project there! Are you going to run that with an "Amfleet / Horizon" consist pushe...

I guess they might have suspended "Rule G" and are filling up the coolers with the good stuff.... I wouldn't mind being the brakeman on that run as long as we had a caboose!

BTW, no such thing as "rule G" on my layout either...

Re: Kalkaska-Mancelona today June 3 2012

So if I were to head up to Fife Lake for a camping trip in a few weeks, what kind of traffic on the GLC could I expect?
Probably stay there 3 or 4 days at Spring Lake campground. ( for those that don't know, tracks run right through there! ).
Thanks,
Todd
