Re: C&O mileposts to Traverse City....
Digging up an a REALLY OLD thread here.... A couple weeks ago I went to Baldwin for the Blessing of the Bikes. Anyway, on a side trip to Dublin for the famous jerky at the Dublin General Store, I noticed that a good portion of the old C&O / P.M. right of way is surprisingly very accessable to motor ...

Re: My HO Scale CTC System
Justin, that is just amazing! I have always been interested in signalling systems, interlockings, etc. I have a medium sized layout in my basement and while I concentrate on scenery and rolling-stock, I really wish I had the talent to set up a signal system like yours.( I am an idiot when it comes t...

Any RR related structures left on old MCRR Goshen Branch??
I have an obsession with this long-lost line. I have explored the northern end as far south as Athens. I have seen a curious looking relic in East Leroy. I think it might have been RR related given the layout of everything, but not sure. Sorry I don't have photos. I bought a digital camera a few yea...

Any good online retailers other than Walthers???
Well guys, I've had it with Walthers. Seems like every time I go to place an order with them more than half the things I need are out of stock. I don't want to get into a big rant here, but I'm sure lots of you know exactly what I'm talking about. So, I'd like some suggestions on who to try for my M...

Re: Sleeping Bear Dunes
looking at my DeLormes and cross checking it against my SPV maps I don't see anything near that campground. Could have been any number of things. There was a PM branch up to Honor, also M&NE. E&SE went to Empire, about 10 miles north of the campground. My best guess is an old lumber company line, or...

Re: DT&I GP15 Repaint
Boy! That's a GOOD LOOKING fleet of large scale power!!! Now, hopefully you guys can answer a question for me.. What is the proper color for DT&I / AA Orange? I'm getting ready to do a couple AA '35's in HO scale and my GTW / CN orange looks too red to me. I'd like to use either Scalecoat or Accupai...

Best Coney Dogs in Battle Creek......
Bills Hot Dog Factory has closed their B drive+Beadle Lake location. They are now located on Helmer Rd. across the street from the airport in "Bills Pizza Factory". Still the same great coneys, and now just a stones throw from the GTW/CN crossing at Helmer Road in Springfield. ( good parking for tra...

Re: EXTREME TRAINS
If anyone here gets RFD-TV, every monday night at 6:00 pm they have a one-hour show called "Trains & Locomotives" that is usually vintage videos, and sometimes more current footage. I think it repeats at some really late hour like 4 am or something as well. Much better than the typical "commercial-T...

Re: GTW 7974 PHOTO HELP REQUEST
When the GTW went to the blue and orange in 1971, the "orange" became more reddish. This COULD be because the first units to wear these colors were the GP-38-AC's ( 5800-5811 ), built and painted by EMD in 1971. It might be that after that the GTW "adjusted" their orange they were using on repaints ...

AMTK "Rusty Rail" in B.C. vs. High Speed Rail.
For quite some time now Eastbound Amtraks have been heading into #1 main west of Battle Creek, and holding there at CP Custer to clear a Westbound Amtrak Then backing out to regain #2 main. . This is the west end of "double track" all the way THROUGH B.C., and out to CP Levitt. It is probably in bet...

Re: Penn Central, Was It Really That Bad?
While there is no sane arguement against the Penn Central being a complete business disaster, I must say this. It did give this young railfan a chance to see trains on some light density trackage that really had no purpose for existing for the 20-40 years prior. When Conrail came around these intere...

Re: Amtrak Baggage cars on Wolverine trains
When I was a kid back in the mid-1970's, I remember baggage cars on a couple of the michigan trains here in Battle Creek. I used to hang out with one of the station agents and recall most of the "Baggage" was actually Amtrak paperwork coming to supply the agent. It was always in boxes marked "RRB". ...

Looks really good John. I love the way you have captured the flavor of an old structure that has been "modernized" throughout the decades. That really sets the era, and gives us a sense of history.

This is another example of why I am scared to go DCC. I'm an old fart that has a hard enough time just trying to get my several-year-old PC to work properly. Seems like the new products such as DCC are geared to the younger people that grew up with computers. Hell, they are being exposed to them in ...

I could be mistaken, but I thought that Lansing recently passed legislation to have the state purchase the MC line from KZOO to Dearborn. Did this get torpedoed?

Guys, there is a great forum out there called Diesel Detailer. Not sure of the exact address right now, but I have been with them for about 6 months. Mostly HO scalers, but everybody there really gets right down to the last little phillips screw placed in the correct location on the proper fratastat...

Re: worker who died after fall. identified as Michigan opera
Sad to hear about this unfortunate incident. Every human life is worth much more than a driven pile for a bridge, or a tamped tie along the track. Without knowing anymore about the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, right now all I can do is offer my condolences to the families involved. I...

It's been said before, and I agree. The P-42 doesn't look like a locomotive. It looks like THE BOX the locomotive came in.....

Amtrak 110 mph revisited..
Thinking about what could have been, It's too bad that those old French RTG Turbos didn't come about in 2012, rather than 1973. They were designed for 125 mph running all day long. Perfect for the Wolverine corridor. Yes, they DID run here, in the mid 1970's, restricted to 60 mph due to track condit...

Anyway, for HOBO JIM who first started this thread, check OTIS. yes, just enter that in your search box. It it the "offender tracking information system". You can find any person that has been "In the system" so to speak. I just gotta' say, the lable "OTIS" is kind of humorous to me... Anyone here t...
