"Rail banked" - Michigan definitions and restrictions

Question: Rail banked properties have the potential to be redeveloped for rail service, right? That's the point of the rail bank status, I believe. Our local former tracks in NE Michigan (North of Alpena) are all snowmobile trails now, but the local municipalities / MDRE have plans and grants to res...

Question: Rail banked properties have the potential to be redeveloped for rail service, right? That's the point of the rail bank status, I believe. Our local former tracks are all snowmobile trails now, but in there are plans and grants to resurface the Alpena to Cheboygan sub (former D&M) line with...

Re: Help! Save Detroit & Mackinac /LSRC ALCO RS2 #469 from s

Here are some fairly current photos of the D&M / LSRC ALCOs in question. Re: Help! Save Detroit & Mackinac /LSRC ALCO RS2 #469 from s

Update: Talks regarding temporary storage are currently developing between Waymore Power and the Saginaw Valley Rail Museum which is only about 5 miles from the LSRC Saginaw yard where #974 and #469 are stored. These units were purchased by Waymore from LSRC. They have stated they would sell these u...

Re: Help! Save Detroit & Mackinac /LSRC ALCO RS2 #469 from scrap

LSRC sold all ALCOs to Waymore Power of Illinois over a year ago. They have not moved #469, #974, #975 (maybe others) out of the Lake State yard. Mr. Garrett said it is too costly to move them to Illinois so he has and will scrap his ALCOs here in Michigan. He no longer wants to pay storage on these...

Help! Save Detroit & Mackinac /LSRC ALCO RS2 #469 from scrap

I am trying to get the word out to save Detroit & Mackinaw (LSRC) #469 and possibly #974 from the scrappers torch. In an attempt to try to obtain one of these locos for a local museum, I communicated with the current owner (Waymore Power / Spencer Garrent) and found they were planning to scrap these...
