Re: Chicago Division - Pemberville Subdivision Layout
On a side note. Has anyone ever attended the train show in Saline, Michigan before? I see it is this weekend and was wondering if it is a good one? We were planning on attending and picking up a few items for the Pemberville Sub. Thanks, Rob

Re: Chicago Division - Pemberville Subdivision Layout
In response to SD70, I had wanted to put a crossover at Lemoyne but kinda ran out of room right now. Might go back into "reconfiguration mode" and put one in there and at Pemberville. Larry, thanks for the kudo. I saw your pics and I hope our layout can look half as good as yours. Can I hire ya for ...

Re: Chicago Division - Pemberville Subdivision Layout
Found some old track in the box and decided what a better way to figure out where things should go. Started laying out track to get a better idea of what I want and where I want it. The green papers are printable turnouts to try to figure out location. This is the southern end of the Pemberville Sub...

Again, thanks to all that responded to this thread. Now that we have started benchwork for our layout, I have posted a new thread in the Model Railroading section titled "Chicago Division - Pemberville Sub Layout". Check out our progress. Thanks, Rob

Re: Chicago Division - Pemberville Subdivision Layout
Todd,
Your exactly right, the benchwork is anchored to the wall with Tapcon's. I was actually on top of the layout screwing the last section of plywood down and if it can hold me up, it ain't goin' no where. LOL
Thanks for the response. Gotta keep this newbie in line.

Chicago Division - Pemberville Subdivision Layout
Well, after 10 years and alot of thinking, pondering, rethinking, moving, budgeting & ploting, the Pemberville Sub is finally taking shape. Our layout started out being just a freelanced, no frills layout and has since become a mostly prototypical layout designed around the C&O's Chicago Division - ...

Got a heads up about MRH a few days ago and checked it out. Lots of ads but lots of great articles as well. As a newbie in this great hobby, it was a great reference.

Re: Cork or cork on pinkboard????????
I have seen it both ways in pictures but never really knew the advantages or disadvantages. I figured it was for sound supression. Gluing the cork to the pinkboard is more sturdy than gluing the cork right to the benchwork? I would not have thought that.

Cork or cork on pinkboard????????
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using just cork on plywood or covering the plywood with pinkboard and then corkin' it? Is this just for sound deadening or are there real advantages this newbie hasn't heard of? Just curious. Thanks.

Re: Turnouts on our new layout
Went to the local hobby store today and found nothing in the way of comparison/contrast for turnouts. Did some more reading, looked at the 30 or 40 magazines we have and decided to go with the #6's everywhere and save the #4's for our switching yard. Templates are being copied so we can lay them out...

Re: Toledo CSX to Fostoria run
Is there a website that has pictures of the Walbridge or Stanley yards that I could use for reference. I plan on taking pictures of my own but didnt know if there was a site out there that already had some on it. Thanks.

Re: Turnouts on our new layout
We had planned on using Atlas or Walthers Code 83 for track and using Caboose ground throws for the turnouts. Our era of modeling will be late 60's - early 70's with mostly box car and a few grain hoppers for our layout. Eventually, we will be adding a steel mill but that is probably "Phase 6" of th...

Turnouts on our new layout
My sons and I are starting to build our new layout this weekend. This will be our first (and hopefully last) attempt at this and the question I have is; What number turnouts should I use on our mainline and which should I use in the switching yard? We will be going with Code 83 track but we have not...
