Apparently MDOT does not share your sentiment. See page 92 paragraph 6.5.6. https://www.michigan.gov/mdot/-/media/Project/Websites/MDOT/Programs/Planning/Michigan-Mobility/Michigan-State-Rail-Plan-Supplement.pdf?rev=693bf71a460744298367a0cf93c4bd4f&hash=1A2732BB48B86147748D35564B493B8A Screenshot 2...

Re: Kzoo looks to close 3 crossings, move railyard
It's a dumb, horrible idea. How about Kalamazoo to Traverse City? I agree. While moving the railyard would qualify as a "fantasy" plan and lesser improvements (such as a NE connection on the diamond) are close to fantasy land the oft discussed fantasy passenger rail plans are just distractio...

Re: Kzoo looks to close 3 crossings, move railyard
... I don’t quite understand how closing 3 low traffic crossings, 2 of them on the other side of downtown affected only by Amtrak, is supposed to help fix this. Funding. MDOT will pay the city to close the crossings then the city will use the payment to fund the study to do more work. There is no e...

Re: CSX Porter Branch
CN makes it across NS in South Bend. NS should be able to find a window for CSX to cross at Porter if the path existed. It might even be less disruptive than trains taking up space between Porter and East Curtis.

Ok ... The photos of the nearby crossing made it look like it was further down the track. Private crossing with a stop sign.

Re: Man Dies After Getting Hit By Train In Stevensville.
Thanks for the correction. I believe the public is trying to figure out what went wrong. Incorrect descriptions in the media do not help. What went wrong is someone who lived at the end of a driveway with railroad tracks forgot the number one rule of trains — watch for them or they can and will kil...

Re: GoGo Squeeze purchases old Cherry Growers building
Seems like, after all these years, that somebody in an official capacity would just say -- no more, we are not going all that way for just 2 customers . If you don't want rail--- then you deal with it ,and leave. The recent hype, and then loss of that new industry spur is a great example of that. S...

Re: CSX Grand Rapids subdivision useless opinion poll.
GRHC needs to be added as an option in the poll. Then we can vote that he will own/operate the CSX Grand Rapids sub in 5 years.

Re: Useless CSX Grand Rapids subdivision opinion poll.
When I saw the thread title I wondered if it was about the "Useless CSX Grand Rapids subdivision" or was a useless poll. The first post made that clear. GRHC seems to be tracking votes closely so I do not have to say what way I voted. The State of Michigan would be a potential choice filed under "ot...

Re: City of South Bend buys Union Station; Will passenger rail service return to downtown?
The South Bend Union Station was most recently used to house a data center. The data center use will remain (offices will move to another building). The seller of Union Station bought and renovated the building keeping the great hall for receptions and parties. He is selling the great hall portion ...

Re: Shunt enhancement - success?
This idea was discussed when NICTD got the full funding agreement for DTNWI. However, my guess is now that there are typically too many NICTD trains already to try adding in a bunch of Amtrak express moves, and make it work. Somebody would have to lose when the schedule falls apart, and neither is ...
