Re: Rj Corman Central Kentucky Lines
The sand is transloaded from barges on the Ohio in Louisville, not far east of I-65 and the ex-Big Four Bridge that's now a footbridge to Jeffersonville. My memory is a bit dated, the sand ran as a turn? Left Louisville in the late morning, trading loads for empties in Lexington in the midafternoon?...

Re: CSX Barr Yard
As an aside, i have been curious to know how Barr Yard is laid out. Seems like it could have set up either as an Arrival-Classification-Departure (with a Locals Yard too) or as North+Westbound Arrival/Departure-North+West Classification-South+Eastbound Classification-South+East Arrival/Departure.

Re: Info On 3 PA shortlines
Uh.. i doubt it, but they run grain trains from Taylor Yard to a mill in Mt.Pocono, used to be 3-4 times a week. They've generally got more than one train running everyday, usually starting around 8am, to Carbondale, around Scranton, etc. Being that the DL runs Alcos+MLWs thru Steamtown, i suspect t...

Re: Info On 3 PA shortlines
Looking for ... any "average time of day" does the Delaware & Lackawanna" arrive at Slateford. The DL PT-98 often meets NS H76 at Slateford midday (noon-2pm?), less than daily. It was only Thursdays and Sundays a few years ago, but i believe it to be more frequent these days. Beautiful place, espec...

Starting April 22 Q109 will run three and half hours later with arrival at North Baltimore 12:30 and departure 13:30 For Marion. The reason behind this Q015 and Q016 will also work North Baltimore starting on April 22. CSX's Q015 and Q016 run between Bedford Park,Il and Chambersburg,Pa. CSXI was to...

Re: Young photographer documents his years of hoboing
Surely most everyone here has taken a ain't-no-trains-today photo, not unlike the snow covered tracks and overpass (last photo in the series in the second link), and could relate to it. Surely most everyone has taken some trackside color, not unlike the boy with flowers in his suspenders (maybe not ...

Re: Young photographer documents his years of hoboing
The "the poor smell" blather is trite and insipid. My question wasn't a slag, take it at face value. i know who nails it... i know who nails it in the constraints of railroad photography. i was asking if anyone has transcended into the art world. Honestly, i think it's incredibly difficult for photo...

Routing logistics
Reading the recent post about the plan for the Q108/109 turn from Marion to North Baltimore and back piqued an old curiosity for me. How come the plan isn't to start in North Baltimore and turn at Marion? Does minimizing transit+dwell time on the containers moving between NWO and the Q106/107 take p...

Re: CN and Indiana Rail Road to build intermodal terminal
Wouldn't that same sense make CN want to return to hauling conatiners to St.Louis? The metro St.Louis region has a bit more than 2.8 million people in it, making it a third larger than the metro Indy region of 2.1 million people. And CN already owns and controls the their tracks to the city, the ram...

Re: CN and Indiana Rail Road to build intermodal terminal
In my pessimism, i am reminded of the failed Wheeling intermodal yard in Navarre,Oh called Neomodal and the lose of the IC pig trains to St.Louis (i can't recall when they stopped running, i'd hazard a guess it wass shortly before the CN takeover). While there have been shifts in the way container t...

Re: Bellows Falls, VT
Bellows Falls is primarily an interchange point for the GMRC/VRS and NECR. GMRC used to leave Rutland at 8am or so and get down to Riverside Yard before lunch and return to Rutland for dinner. Riverside is about a mile north of town. i can't remember if the road engines or a local engine shunted the...

Re: Chicago, ns 63rd st. yard.
Try this: http://www.nscorp.com/nscintermodal/Intermodal/System_Info/Terminals/chicago_63.html As a rule of thumb, add 3 hours to cut off time. Looks like 4-5 trains, all ex-Conrail to at least Harrisburgh. In the past the fastest trains came out of here, and the 20E schedule is pretty darn fast. Al...

Re: Ohio rail business news
The Coors brewery in Elkton,Va no longer recieves wort in insulated tank cars from Golden. Coors expanded the Virginia facility two years ago. The CORX tankers were a daily staple on NS' 111, which used to be a Kansas City to Roanoke train, now truncated to a Kansas City to Knoxville train (that car...

Re: CN line to Newton
An aforementioned coal train heads to the power plant at Liz,Il (about 10 miles southwest of Newton) most days, without, to my knowledge, a schedule. i understand there to be a pair of INRD switchers that run west from the yard in Palestine,Il. The one during the daytime is supposed to only work as ...

i believe that the symbol for the CN turn from Effingham to Newton is the L556. It ran nightly a few years ago, i'd say it runs As Required now.

i find it odd that CSX would need three intermodal ramps in the hundred mile stretch from North Baltimore to Columbus.
