Re: GLC 329 being repainted?
The A A original scheme would be great--- not so much the Mich. Int., as that was in the final, painful years of the Annie. Every era and scheme had “painful years”. The big orange billboard scheme saw the bankruptcy of the DT&I and desperation of Conrail as an operator. Ferry in the Fog would, in ...

Re: GLC 329 being repainted?
So, OK-- neat logo, and nice loco-- but-- is ANYof the track that run on actually ex NYC? The Oakley branch is, so they've got that going for them. I don't mean to instantly critique, but I wonder if my thoughts are shared by anyone else. The paint job itself is nice, and it's a neat addition to th...

Re: Plymouth & GR sub-div Work
Very slightly off-topic, but are there any 'searchlight dwarfs' on the Plymouth (or Lansing) Sub, or is it all like pictured above, semi-modern replacements? I am not super knowledgeable about these signals, but I remember seeing all the neat old dwarfs around Plymouth growing up, and I wondered if ...

Columbus' Last Roundhouse Falls
I woke up early on August 6th and took a long route to work, to stop by Parsons Yard and get some drone photos and videos of the C&O roundhouse here. Built in 1927, it was the last of Columbus' half dozen(ish) roundhouses through history to be standing, and one of very few in Ohio that still had the...

Re: The Steel Wheels Art Gallery featuring railroad art/graffiti
These are two examples of what I understand is ‘railfan graffiti’, the deliberate touching-up of historic paint. The Ohio Central Super-7 got full Conrail Quality lettering on one side, and the Wheeling SD40-2 a touched-up (or repainted entirely?) GM logo like it wore as an EMD leaser. I cannot cond...

Pie, IIRC you are the first person to stump our panel. Where is this? Sort of a different one...but it contains rails nonetheless (and standard rails are very nearby) Admin edit from the OP: I will add here, the photo is NOT in Michigan, but in a bordering state. :D The honor (dishonor?) is all min...

I don't know but I bet someone else will. Would you post a picture of your layout in the Modeling threads? Your Avatar looks interesting. I feel a compulsory need to include Boon Hill on the old Ann Arbor, inactive now and certainly not the steepest, but worthy of mention!

Non-railfans see a train any time they see tracks. Railfans see tracks more than trains. That's just the way of the world

So this'll actually be a useful tool for fanning in the area, potentially. We just need it to tell us which route the train is taking

Re: NS Peavine talk
I thought I'd chime in briefly, I've only been to the CCET once and was expecting some rude (or at least ignoring) crews. I tried to stay out of the way and give them space, and in return they told me what was in store for the day, and some good spots. They had no issue with me hanging around...as l...

Re: Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad
Thank you for posting Pie! Nice video. Anyone know the heritage and history of those 3 engines? For anyone interested in catching them, it seems like if you show up at or before 5:00am at High Yard in Parkersburg, they go on duty around then. Here's a video from my chase yesterday, to give an idea ...

Re: Michigan shortline update: March 2020
This is late and won’t help anyone, but maybe it’s good for future reference. LSRC 6355 and 6352 left Wixom at 7:47am for Flint, and I later caught 6351 and 6302 heading south through Holly at 11:00 (and they presumably arrived in Wixom sometime after). This was my first time ‘chasing’ on this line....

If 328 gets to Detroit fast enough, the power on it can come right to GPR on 329 like the last three days. There will be no Q328 or Q329 on Christmas Day. After Q328 w...

Re: NS West Virginia Secondary-Columbus Oh to Alloy WV
Other than a few NS coal trains loaded at Buckingham a couple years ago, the only traffic there was Ohio Central, not exactly a crippling blow to the KNWA. They still make pretty good time for constant 25mph on the Ohio Side, though there are definitely some slow orders around.
