Re: D&M / LSRC Stone Operations
I just read yesterday US Gypsum is to reopen Alabaster according to local news coverage. The still supply their plant in Detroit. CEO said relaying rail was a possibility. Wall board is on the upswing again so the "Great White City" may once again rise from the ashes?

So I've been following this thread plus others which show considerable track work around the station area in TC. What's the purpose?

That wreck in the 80s was JJ Mann from Marcellus who was engineer with 2 brand new SD50s. His comments were to the effect, I'm glad there wasn't a spark.

Escanaba Paper
I see Michigan legislators have given Escanaba Paper $200 million doors to go with the $1 billion the Swiss parent company is investing to upgrade the mill to keep it viable for the 1200 workers there. That should keep the Gladstone line to the Soo busier for a long time.

Re: GDLK Operations
Well as safety officer of my fire department if you guys can't stop a train on tangent track with red and blue lights next to a crossing then somebody doesn't have situational awareness of their surroundings. Come down to Heimbach Road with a semi waiting to get on US 131 and gates down on him your ...

This morning at 6:20 am Portage Fire responded to Center St. and Schaver Rd. to a two car collision. One car was on the Grand Elk tracks and yup the lights came on. A southbound train was coming but not before firefighters were able to pull the driver out of the jeep before the train hit it.

Watco from what I was told wanted to go with non specific units so they can be used all over their systems. Unfortunately lost with that is public relations in specific regions. Only the red/white colors of WC seem to be lasting the longest.

Re: Study Time....again
Pure Michigan at its un- finest. The closer you get to TC the less ridership will be. The Amtrak Pere Marquette should be a lesson in schedules. If your going to Chicago plan on 2 nights hotel minimum per the scheduled times. So it's just not the train price but extras entailed for say a weekend stay.

Re: Copper mining set to resume in White Pine
I use to talk to the purchasing agent there when it was Kimberly Clark every week. I always wondered if the state was helping out in some way with economic funds or whatever? Their pulp was always imported but you never saw pulpcars from Seney or surrounding areas. SOO, WC & CN have always switched ...

Re: Copper mining set to resume in White Pine
Well as soon as it was announced they posted 1 engineer and 1 conductor job on Watco 's website. Not many takers then up there. I just hope the paper mill in Munising doesn't shudder its doors if they get no one to switch them. Is the FOXY not running yet with Watco crews?

Re: Copper mining set to resume in White Pine
Park Falls was mentioned as the transload as WDOT allows for 80,000# trucks on its highways. 80 miles away from White Pine but I still can't figure out the end game for Watco? What's holding up their take over of the Newberry line now?
