Re: U.P. question
Last I heard CN was still operating ore between Empire/Escanaba/Algoma Steel in the daily regular manifest. Yes. The CN drops 45 hoppers to LS&I for the 7am weigher. LS&I loads these 45 at the Tilden and CN loads 45 at the Empire. LS&I will bring the 45 to Partridge and run back to Eagle Mills ligh...

Re: MQT Info
Trainmasters as conductors you say? Yes, that's how we do things on the Marquette. My honest opinion, if more trainmasters did conductor work more often they would have a better dealing with the train-crews. Some might disagree, but how can you manage someone if you have no clue what they do out in...

Re: MQT Info
The same crew doesn't take the train every day.... Well, how exactly does that work out? There are specific rules in the Fed Register and those in the Hours of Service Act that say a crew must have a regular sign-up point. Now I know the MQT has had a number of visits from the Feds, which is also p...

Re: Digitrax Zephyr Xtra Starter Set
I have the system that the boy uses for the 4x8 layout. It works well for a small layout, running 3-4 engines. (JR has two unit's MU'ed running on the main, and 1 or 2 switching). The system is nice because you can upgrade it since it uses loconet like all other Digitrax systems. Like all starter se...

Re: Track Authority Questions
Ok, for example if CN decided to remove signals from the Holly Sub and make it dark territory dispatched by track authorities, would there still be absolute signals at the control points? ( Moterm, Yellow Cab) Just so you know, you need FRA permission to dactivate a signal system. So, while your sc...

Re: RailAmerica buys Marquette
The interchange clause between Marquette and CSX will stay the same under RA ownership. New corporate ownership doesn't make a difference. More than likely Marquette was set up as switching line carrier and not an interline- most of the deals CSX has set up in the past 20 years are this way. Doesn'...

Re: Michigan Southern (West Michigan RR) mini trip report w/
Heard a rumor that those tracks may be removed east of Hartford later on this year. So, what happens to the half dozen or so cars in Lawrence? It's going to take some serious rehabilitation to move those cars off the line before tearing it out. Cut up on the spot? Trucked away? They might part the ...

Re: Too many rail trails?
In about 10 years, the line from Baldwin to GR will be a great trail for the hardy work out. Up hill, down hill, up hill and down hill at the same time. Make sure you have good brakes for Kopje, Newaygo and Comstock Park. So in 10 years I can be a "Bikemaster" and you and MuskgonRR rip up 2 miles o...

Re: RailAmerica Muskegon power
I think the SD's are needed for road trains that are operate on this line. Heavy trains, moderate speeds and rolling terrain. Maybe RA will send the SP Tunnel Motors to run on the Marquette ! No SD are in Muskegon only Geeps and a switcher, and IF RA takes over MQT the only SD that will be up here ...

MQT Rail (Z151) NB at Turner St. GRR at 1455. 3001 leading. Thanks. :) By the way, does anyone know when MQT changed the number boards on 3001? Re: RailAmerica buys Marquette
Fantastic news for a group of railroaders I've heard nothing but good about. While it's likely they don't get $40m divided across the group - they have to pay down whomever loaned them $x million a few years back to buy in - it's still a good deal for folks in state that's had a rough time. As to t...

Re: RailAmerica buys Marquette
From what i heard is Rail America is going to put the track back in service from Fremont to White Cloud. A local will be put on in Grand Rapids GRE Yard to run from GRR to Newago turn. Grain Trains will run thru Muskegon to avoid the Newago hill. I can only hope. Too bad the bridge at Ferrysberg wo...
