Au contraire, Zack. The SW and N switches of the Holland wye have ATCS. Nothing else around does, though. From what I can tell, the SE switch does not, which is why the 'Waverly' does not work on the Holland map. I've watched a West Olive coal train go through the two ATCS switches, and the map work...

I've got a request for you, Mr. Ore Train Man. Can you get pictures of the clay shed and merchandise unloading area at the Tilden? This is one spot I've been trying to see for a long time, but can't see from the tour, or aerial photos, or any picture I've found anywhere. My thanks for all these upda...

By the way, has anyone ever noticed that little siding just south of that former crossing (West Olive Rd)? What was it ever used for? The tracks end just north of Croswell but don't appear to be connected to the mainline. I'm assuming you're talking about the short little one on the east side of th...

Western Lime at Port Inland
Talking about good timing.. Was heading up to the Range (Marquette, of course) this weekend, and this here open house set my timing on the way up. The short story is Western Lime (based out of Wisconsin) built this small plant to piggyback off Oglebay Norton's limestone operations at Port Inland. Th...

First: 'bout time someone got pictures of this thing! Wish I had the time to get up there myself. Second: thanks so much for getting a picture of the fluxstone unloader apparatus! I've been trying to get a good view of that thing for awhile now, but couldn't get close enough on the Tilden tour. Quit...

Got back to my place at 8, saw your post. Heard MQT clear Watson at 2115, not enough time to get outside for pics, so I got some through the good ol' screen wire, and of course none turned out decent. Lots and lots of lime cars, including an old bankruptcy blue Rock Island. Maybe someone will get so...

Just to play devil's advocate.. if there were more quiet zones, and people didn't hear horns in the background on a regular basis, then when they are used for warning, people would be more apt to pay attention (if nothing else, then just reflexively). I sometimes wonder about the efficacy of trains ...
I'd really like to see us either heavily develop fusion power, or highly improve our current nuclear technology... then develop LOTS of power, make it cheap, so we can just power our cars on electric power... have quick electric charging stations...we'd be all set.
Would...

Ethanol from corn ain't the answer. It's only remotely viable when heavily subsidized. Ethanol from sugar cane, like Brazil is using, is viable. Ethanol from algae is actually an incredibly good option, once the technicalities get worked out. See http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/earth/4213775...

Somehow I think that anyone who really wants to blow up trains of chemicals, and has the resources to get bombs and fake IDs, doesn't need the help of a railfan website to figure out where trains that carry said chemicals are, especially since said chemicals are stenciled on the side of cars in said...

Interesting how they are M.U.'ed mid consist were the units online or dead in tow? Probably dead in tow. Switchers are shipped in between road units for a good reason: they don't have 'alignment limiting couplers' (that's not what they're called, but for some reason I can't remember what they're ca...
