Re: Beautiful U.P. trackage

The last freight ran from Channing to Wells on April 26, 1993. The reason given for discontinuing service was the track couldn't take 130 ton pulpwood cars anymore. So we continued to switch storage cars with 200 ton SD9s, go figure. At one time we had cars stored from Channing to Alfred which is 25...

Re: CN Derailment near Iron Mountain

Nothing new on wood chip plant, still shipping pulpwood out of McConnells Landing.

Only thing shipped out of Groveland is ballast for E&LS rehab work.

Re: CN Derailment near Iron Mountain

No customers in Escanaba anymore that I know of except maybe a LP gas dealer. They used to get in an occasional car. We switch a Louisiana Pacific mill between Sagola and Randville that makes OSB. They get in pulpwood and dye and ship out OSB. A scrap yard in Kingsford ships out an occasional car of...

Re: CN Derailment near Iron Mountain

The crews of the Escanaba-Iron Mountain local and the Niagara switch engine tied up there. Mostly, I suspect it was due to union agreements. Most of the work was at Niagara and later at the new International Paper plant at Quinnesec. There were still a few cars interchanged with the E&LS and the C&N...

Re: CN Derailment near Iron Mountain

The CN has no customers in Iron Mountain, Antoine Yard was torn up probably 10 years ago and the property sold to the DNR. They accessed the yard with trackage rights over the ELS from H Street to near Hamilton Street. Their property ends at H Street in Iron Mountain at the connection with the ELS. ...

Re: CN Derailment near Iron Mountain

The CN leased the track from just east of the New Page mill to Lake Street in Quinnesec to Motive Rail. They have been switching the mill since this winter. The CN only delivers and receives cars from them at the mill. The ELS hasn't interchanged cars at Quinnesec for over a year and since the lease...

Re: Hogan yard?

Antoine Yard in Iron Mountain has been torn up for several years after the CN abandoned it. They sold the land to the DNR for a snowmobile trail. The CN still has trackage rights thru Iron Mountain on the ELS to their yard switch, but with no yard they don't come any farther than Quinnesec now. The ...

Re: UP in Antoine, MI??????

Antoine Yard is no longer in existence, the rails were removed several years ago. All that remains is the switch off the E&LS to the yard. The CN tore down the last remaining buildings at the same time that the rails came up. The DNR is acquiring the right of way for a snowmobile trail. The remainin...
