Looking to buy a scanner.
What would anyone reccomend for a hand held scanner? I will go without before I spend $400 on a scanner. If one can be had for less than $150 that will do the job, I sure would like to know about it. All I intend to use it for is railroad dispatch while trackside.

I just cannot see it happening myself. The NS line running from Detroit to Jackson passes through Ann Arbor but misses the airport by 5 or 6 miles to the north. The NS line that runs from Detroit, past Metro, and through Milan on the way to Indiana, misses Ann Arbor by 7 or 8 miles to the south east...

Hi Norm! Welcome. I can be found at least once a month from March to November in Durand. I live about 2 miles east from the Holly Sub mile 15 in Royal Oak. Both my father in Howell (mile post 81) and my grandmother in Cadillac (mp 231) have the GLC running through their back yards. Most my trips are...

I would suspect that a wye would have to be constructed at the East end of Cadillac West Yard near 3rd and Wright. Otherwise, a backing move or run around would be needed to go North to Walton Jct. The space does exist for such a connection, as no structure occupies the area. I wonder if a casino tr...

Chicago 4900- Thanks, I knew of the configuration of the tracks at Milwaukee Jct. The diamond has been gone more than 15 years now. I would think that if any commuter train used the Holly Sub again, it would terminate at the Amtrak station on Baltimore, west of Woodward. A shuttle bus would run from...

I hate to say it, but you could make a train that would pick up someone at the end of their block and take them non-stop to the airport terminal, they will still choose their car. It is something I would like to see, if it were feesible. If people will not take a train from Pontiac, Birmingham, and ...
