Re: Spent the day in Fostoria
Anyone know how CSX ended up with GP40-2's w/o dynamic brakes? Ex-RP&F units perhaps :? The 6398 is indeed a former RF&P (not RP&F) unit, and is one of the only, if not the only, non-dynamic GP40-2's on the CSX roster. CSX 6393-6399 are ex-RF&P 141-147, built with dual control stands (since removed...

Also today (sunday) at Cole St was an empty rail train tied up with a CSX GP38-2 waiting to go west. Has anybody heard of CSX handing off power with these like they do a unit grain train? It wasn't by the road so not 100% sure it was uncrewed but looked to be. Yes. I remember a couple years ago swi...

Re: Union Pacific in Adrian, MI
It's pretty common to see foreign power. Railroads give and take power hours quite often. If for instance, a train is really hot at interchange, they'll go through without swapping power. The units might just then tour the other's system before winding back up on the home network. Sometimes railroa...

Ummm Okay I'm sure they were about to hit amtrak.... I would imagine if that was about to happen the crews would have dumped the train. They did big hole it at 6:52. They went back a considerable ways, so it's very possible they got close to Amtrak. The head end power was pulling hard when it went ...

Re: UP train hits parade float
Attorneys for the victims say the truck should have had 30 seconds of warning time, but only had 20. "We think that the root cause of the accident is the short warning time," Glasheen said. That's not going to get them anywhere in their lawsuit against Union Pacific. That's the current Federal Regu...

Re: UP train hits parade float
I think UP is pretty safe in this case, since the crossing was functioning right and they had no knowledge of the parade. The truck driver and/or company is gonna be dealt a series of tough blows by this one.... People that don't know anything about railroads/trains still go after the railroad like...

Re: Another Operating Question.
Still applies today. A single engine by itself can lose shunt at higher speeds, meaning it might not trip signals or activate crossing protection, because it doesn't have enough axles. 2 or more units eliminate this problem. Even an engine and a single car wouldn't be restricted, either. Not sure w...
