I think it's gonna be... paint floor, rubber isles, and then call it good. Now to get the ball rolling here with the new year coming. The layout room is about 22' 4" x 19'. https://sites.google.com/site/pmalmonts ... ayout-plan

Re: Carpet or not to Carpet
Thanks for the replies all. I was thinking of the interlocking rubber flooring too. I have been leaning to that or long runners of carpet down the isles and nothing under the layout. When the auto show comes back to town, there are deals on the carpeting if you can get in there for the remnants from...

Carpet or not to Carpet
It has been a while since I have posted on the board... many thing going on. Still beta testing TS12. Still route making the Mt Clemens Sub for TS12. Still building a model railroad in the basement. I just finished the HVAC installation of a geothermal system and plan on construction again the the t...

Re: Summer HO Bummer to TS 12
I rather build trains and run them in the basement, but I have also used the program / sim to do a scale mockup of the layout room too. Pretty cool indeed. Funds are short, wage freezes at work, and many other repairs and modifications to do on the home... TS 12 is a cheap alternative to building ne...

Summer HO Bummer to TS 12
Since my heating and cooling system will be gutted (all ducts) my HO Scale layout will continue to be delayed... seems like years now to build anything. In the mean time I have had some down time to work on content for Trainz Sim 12... the GTW Mt. Clemens Sub. This route, like Chris Racer's previous...

Re: Rochester Jct in TRS2006
I grew up in the area around 23 and 24 mile rds off of Shelby Rd. Tooling around Remer's Woods and Packard Yard was always fun as a kid. Hikes to catch snakes, frogs, and turtles always brought us home dirty, covered in tar from the small trestle over the canal or what ever else we had gotten into. ...

Re: update on Atlas
I would love to have a hobby shop up here in Port Huron that was dependable service wise, affordable (not MSRP and then another 20%+), and most of all have employees that knew something about what they were selling or how to order it and follow through! Sad to say that most of my stuff is bought on ...

Re: Getting Started with Construction
All good things come to an end, but being in the right place at the right time can be a benefit! Today at Lowes in Fort Gratiot I saw $.67 1x4x8 pine! It rang up at $1.98. I said, "Wait a minute, it said 67 cents on the sign for that." The cashier said, "Oh, they did not change it yet, it is suppose...

Re: Getting Started with Construction
Todd, I used OSB on my last layout and had some issues with it. Moisture is one issue, but the other was just painting and scenery. It sure was bumpy too! In any case, the dehumidifier works great and is a must for any basement. Once I bought it the moisture problem was alleviated. One nice thing ab...

Re: Getting Started with Construction
LOL I showed her my sketch of the "bar" wall side of the trainroom (on the outside). She said it looked nice... now to keep the standard. Today I did some clean up, rearranged some of the furniture and entertainment center (the kids playstation, etc), and finalized my wiring for lights and outlets. ...

Re: Getting Started with Construction
The walls are not load bearing and I have considered working with metal studs, but when I have in the past I just was not efficient in working with gloves on, then taking them off to grab a screw and drill into the stud, then put them back on and cut, etc. etc. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_8iahogjzBeE/S1z6...

Getting Started with Construction
Well, the month of January has seen me get back into the groove with Model Railroading. So far this month I have wired four locomotives for DCC and installed three decoders. Now that has been shelved and the beginning of construction of the train room begins. Once again, the wife had to chip in "hal...

Re: hooby shop industry hurting ??
It is a haul for me to get to Great Lakes, but by far they have a wide selection of items, prices are reasonable, and the staff is helpful when asked. They do call you when you order something! I wish they were closer to I-94 and hall for that would be great. There was a hobby shop in east lansing, ...

Re: hooby shop industry hurting ??
The industry has been hurting for a number of years. The lone surviving shop in Port Huron, Pastime Hobbies, has closed its doors (just last month I noticed the building was empty). My experience with them was that they were really expensive and I have never received anything I ordered through them....
