Re: DCC help!!!!!1
Questions... 1) did you isolate the motor from the frame? (Replace the bottom motor clip with the on the harness) 2) did you put a piece of electrical tape on the bottom frame of the loco (where it was ground to the silver metal so the old motor mount would contact the frame)? 3) Is there wires inte...

Re: WIP: Auran Trains 2006
Working on the PH&D here, all 19 miles of it. So far, Tappen interlocking is done, GTW & PM interchange tracks, roundhouse, yard, wye, all are built. I have used TRS 2006 for the model railroad too in seeing what space and operational possiblilites exist. Pretty cool program, just wish my computer w...

Re: Anyone selling Bachmann E-Z track?
I checked, no more track. Sorry. I must have sold it all at the garage sale last year. I had quite a bit of it and sectional track I sold.

I'll check too for some of my son's old Thomas Tank track... I made a small foam board layout for him which he uses from time to time... when Dad want to play with it! LOL

Re: PM Almont Sub Track Plan- Final
Will your two staging areas be connected for continuous running (it is nice sometimes just to let them run)? Yes, they will be connected for continuous run. For now I am planning one main and six staging tracks. The stub ends I will figure in for storage and staging too. I like your double ended ya...

Re: PM Almont Sub Track Plan- Final
You may want to figure out how long a train you want to hide back there (engine + ? cars + cab). I would be inclined to extend it out on peninsula as far as I could to maximize the train length. Not sure what your plans are for scenery on the peninsula, though. Funny thing is I was thinking about t...

Re: MIGN Layout - Track Plan
I was wondering the same thing about the middle of the basement too; nice around the wall design. Is the 22" radius minimum on the mainline or just the layout in general. I have used that small of radius on one of my earlier layouts and found out to be a bit troublesome if you back a longer string o...

PM Almont Sub Track Plan- Final
Considering the design, considering the space (about four feet narrower), and the operational goal I wanted to put in to my next model railroad, I can safely say this plan will work. From the previous post, I have rearranged the yard tracks, made the engine terminal a bit smaller, added a passing si...

Re: Close to a Final Plan
Thanks for the comments; the tracks are just "in" there to take up space and see how far I could get with a max radius greater than 30" (I know 28.5" is on the peninsulas). The west end of the yard and yard lead by the RH does need another crossover and I could put a 3 way, or a double slip in reduc...

Close to a Final Plan
It has been many years since I have run any real train in HO scale with some sort of permanent layout. I have drawn up many plans and shared a few on here from time to time. I think I have come to the conclusion of modeling the PM as if it would have been built west from Almont to East Lansing inste...

Re: Modeling on the Computer
Trainz 2006 here. I have used MSTS, but it is a pain to custom build routes and Trainz is much easier. PM Almont, PM Ludington to Baldwin, Romeo Sub, Flint, and Mt. Clemens are all lines I have done. I also have used it with some success making model routes too. Facinating too is the computer aided ...

Re: One Town MRRing
All good ideas, some already thinking of. One thing that I am considering is a smaller division point or helper loco base. If I model the PM line from Port Huron to Almont then west to Lansing, I am considering making Almont a small yard for helper locos aiding the grade to the west through Lapeer /...

One Town MRRing
Just a random thought... often we try to cram several towns into a layout with very short run times between them, often they are only 1/4 mile or less scale distance apart. I am thinking along the lines of modeling just one town, putting enough operational interest in it for switching, run through f...

Re: Michigan Model Train shows question
I have missed the last Port Huron show, but I would say that there seemed to be less vendors in Lapeer and Port Huron in previous years. I can not speak for the Gratiot Valley train shows in Fraser. Overall I think the economy has hit most modelers pretty hard. I sure hated paying $4.00 gas last sum...

Re: GTW Romeo Sub
I kept it pretty simple to make a workable plan. An additional spur or two in Rochester would do as well as one in Washington or Romeo (Wicks Lumber). Also possibly a cold storage for fruit or canning? Modeling an era modern would be interesting too. You could revamp the Ford tractor into something ...

The PM trains had their way to Plymouth Yard. Then it could be SCSW trackage rights.

Re: GTW Romeo Sub
I used Xtrackcad to draw this... best of all it is freeware. http://www.xtrkcad.org/Wikka/HomePage it is well worth the download and is fully functional and you also can experiment with running trains. I am not sure when or if I will build this. I have thought of combining parts of the Pere Marquett...

GTW Romeo Sub
With all the talk of the Romeo Sub on Dale's boards (MI LP and MI Hx Boards) lately I thought I would give a stab at making a layout fit into the layout room. Not sure if this is the direction I want to go with the Romeo Sub, but I have considered it. The basics: 22 x 19 foot room, 30" min. radius, ...

St. Clair Southwestern RR
Alright, we'll try this board since the Michigan MRR Forum is down again. I think this will make for an interesting theme for a paper railroad. I made up the map, I have an idea for the history, but I think I will let others post timelines and the history for it here. May make for some interesting w...
