Re: Semaphores in Michigan
I know of seven more semaphores in Michigan, but they are in my collection of railroad signals.

Re: Watco buying the Ann Arbor?
1) Don't count on the WALLY any time soon. 2) Back during the proposal to run an intercity train between Detroit and Lansing, the idea of a bridge connection from the westbound NYC to the northbound AA was written off as a $100M+ geometry boondoggle. Add to that the cost of relocating the existing s...

Re: State to buy Michigan line for Amtrak
The graphic included with the article shows the line between Dearborn and Pontiac as part of the proposed track purchase. I don't think this is correct.

Re: LSRC 2003 and 371
Notice how often the number "40" appears in that roster. It's smart business sense to stock only one line of parts. Those 38 rebuilds were some sort of bastardization that didn't produce a "true" 38, just something that had close to 2000 horespower but still burned a ton of fuel. I would not be surp...

Thank you. I thought not much was left of the C&O in those parts. Now ... what was wrong with the signals on the Indy Line?

I was at a lot of the same spots JT was, so I won't post any duplicates of those. However, I did get one decent night shot of the train.

The Ottawa that I am familiar with is served by CSX, as part of their New Rock Sub. The Illinois Railway also has a line up to Aurora. Iowa Interstate trains operate through on CSX.AARR wrote:IIRC the Ottawa IL location is served by CN

I tried a shot of a dead deer with a bunch of vultures on the tracks two years ago, and it was rejected.

Re: REAL? or NOT?
I don't have any EXIF data on any of my shots, and it has always been that way. I would have loved to get something with less noise, but I had literally five minutes to set up, focus, and shoot before the train took off. I'm bummed that I didn't get as good a shot here as I had hoped; perhaps I will...

According to the railroad, the train will be a blue and white geep, with one boxcar, flatcar, and caboose.

Re: Michigan senate chooses car culture again
I didn't see note of it anywhere else on this site, so I'll add that NS just dropped the speed on the Michigan Line in the section between CP-YPSI and CP-LAKE to 40mph for passenger, 25 for freight. Allegedly the track condition has deteriorated to the point where faster running is no longer safe*, ...

Re: Ann Arbor-Detroit Commuter Rail
You are forgetting the single largest problem - MONEY. If the state had any, they'd already be running the commuter service. Everything else is details, despite how incompetent and unprepared the commuter train planners have shown themselves to be.

I photographed this in 2007, and compiled some photos into short slideshow for our annual December railroad-theme meeting up north. This is the fourth act of the holiday program. http://homepage.mac.com/allegheny/hg4w.m4v If it snows a lot this year, I might come back for another run at it. Truly a ...

Re: WALLY commuter train
CTC signaling seems absurd for a line that would have a freight curfew and directional traffic. However, I think RLBA is looking ahead to 2015, when the federal Positive Train Control requirement takes effect. The CTC would provide the foundation for an electronic overlay in the future. Still, yes, ...
