Re: GLC in Durand
I'm there two to four times a month. The guys who are there most, say that GLC runs south in the late afternoon -- from 5 to 7 PM, with the return usually two to four hours later... Oh - and just week days. From time to time I do find GLC going south or coming north between the hours of 10 am and 4 ...

Re: 2 Mile Train at Durand
I was there. He took 120 empty coal cars and 78 others to make 198 cars. 8800 tons, and about 10,800 feet or so. Two BNSF locos 9901 and 9268. He made two passes over the High Wye... first the 120 coal cars, which were left on the main (2), and the second to take cars out of four tracks in the yard....

Re: A good lens step up for a canon rebel t3??
Keep in mind used equipment. Older stuff that might not work quite right can always be returned to good condition by a qualified repair shop. I doubt that lens designs change much over the years, but added 'features' such as vibration reduction are really not necessary if you are willing to use a tr...

I don't have a clue. I'd try both and see which you like better, *IF* you can spot a difference.

Re: Opinions on this shot
The more things change, the more they stay the same. In the 'good old days,' a photographer had to really understand the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. In the much happier days of digi cameras, if one is going to shot in a manual exposure mode, the ISO needs to stay the same....

Re: Opinions on this shot
Auto ISO will obviate the manual setting of aperture and shutter speed. Fix all of them ahead of time. Another thing from back in the day: the lighting is not going to change in a few minutes. The appearance of a bright headlight will skew your settings to your disappointment.
Sorry.

Sure they want it cleared: it's on their right of way, and those structures and gardens have to put the fear of the tort lawyers into the CP management.

Re: Opinions on this shot
Don't wanna start flames... but it's probably better to stay positive. The idea of 'you *do* know the relationship between shutter speed and f-stop' should be more than pitched. So... Back in the day (of color film circa 1965) I ran into the problem of reciprocity failure, with reciprocity being the...

Looks like a fine pan shot to me... and that Nikon is doing OK. I downloaded the full size shot from flickr, and it looks OK to me... I'd be happy with it.

Re: Durand - Derailment
I was at Durand on Friday and I'm to understand that some piece of dragging equipment tore up the platform, but no derailment. Be careful out there. Train guys inspecting passing trains keep a safe distance. Probabilities are low for something to happen, but when it does, a person wants to be well c...

Photo line? It was Photo Lines! Clumps of foam all over the place, and not a nasty word or ugly face. It's really nice when we cooperate and make way for the johnny-come-latelies.

Re: Damaged Files
Try a friend's computer on a different operating system.
Can you open a 'terminal window / command window' and cd to the card and then read the contents of the card?
What is your operating system, by the way? Some windows version? Who knows what corruption might inhabit your machine...

Re: Damaged Files
Can you try to make the transfer with a friend's equipment, or a different operating system? It could be faulty equipment, rather than a bad card or corrupt data, especially if your camera reads the images.

Re: Damaged Files
I don't know what sort of camera you have, but some cameras allow you to plug the camera into a USB port and download from the camera. You could at least download them into a directory (folder) to see what you had. HTH & keep us posted. If you can see the images on the camera, you should be able to ...
