Re: Marquette Rail GLLX 3002 (Avery's Engine)

Holy crap. That pixy dust we got from out west does work! And that star we wished upon out at Moffat tunnel did come true. And the Marquette rabbits foot did it's thing. And all the night's we drank and sang songs about the 02 really did help. Wow. Life just don't get any better than this. With all...

Standard Lumber Siding Grand Rapids MI.

Does anyone know when the siding going to Standard Lumber (Boston Square Kalamazoo, Fuller area) was removed?
Also was this the same siding that went to Reed's Lake in East Grand Rapids?

I live near there and just was curious.

Re: Train Festival 2009: Update

A couple of questions for those of you who went Thursday: --is the SRI site basically rails-in-a-field, or are there enough paved walkways/aprons/trackside platforms to keep a wheelchair or walker out of the muck while exploring? --how many of the engines had live steam or moved on Thursday? 4449, ...

Re: PARKING AT OWOSSO

Went to Trainfest yesterday Thursday, was able to park 2 block away in a city lot and never got a ticket, maybe lucky or P.D. just did not bother checking vehicles. I think we got lucky because it was raining when we arrived at 9:15 am. Seem a few businesses close (within 4 blocks) charging $10~$15 ...

Every year we hear the same threats and then it seems someone somewhere finds the money for another year of operations. Let's hope this year is the same.

Re: Lodging for trainfest at SRI

It appears that all or most of the motel/hotel rooms are already reserved for Trainfest. Here's an idea; we hear about all the FEMA trailers sitting empty maybe the FRA (Since this is a rail related event) can coordinate with FEMA and get some of those trailers to Owosso so people can stay in them f...

Re: Man killed when struck by Amtrak train near downtown Kalamaz

Every time this happens the media makes such a big deal about it. How about doing a story on the train crew in the cab who can do nothing but blow the horn, apply the brakes, and close their eyes knowing that the outcome will not be good. But no lets hype up the whole idea that someone without warni...

Re: Detroit's old Michigan Central Train Station

Remodel it and turn it into the 'Michigan Works' building for Detroit. Since unemployment is on the rise in Detroit they will need a building of this size to process claims and provide a waiting area for all the people. Check out the new video from John Rich http://www.johnrich.com about D...

Chris, Hit the horn a couple of extra times when you head past the RR club in Comstock Park. Just in case you are wondering we are the club attached to Dwight Lydell Park our builiding is right next to the over flowing dumpsters (none of us can figure out how a county park can produce so much trash ...

By the looks of all the equipment that is going to be there along with the other attractions and the number of people they hope to attract they are going to have to park people in Grand Rapids and shuttle them into SRI.

Looks like a good time start saving your money now.
