Re: L'anse 2/25/2021
The boxcars are empty and used to supplement train braking on the Lanse Hill. There is a certain rule for braking that some days requires extra cars and setting retainers on the hill. This was one of those trains, since the lead SD60 is the only unit with Dynamic brakes they grabbed these idlers tha...

Re: Upper Peninsula Railroad Operations Thread
I love Jason's video's! I get the impression he's not popular with the employees at E&LS but he doesn't seem to care 8) . Is this thread still relevant with the operations? Has anything changed? The E&LS is running pretty decent amount of trains. Jason on YouTube lives in East Kingsford, Mi (next d...

Re: Upper Peninsula Railroad Operations Thread
The only change is CN U745 which is the all rail ore move to the LS&I is down for 8-12 weeks due to a full shut down on the LS&I. U745 has been making Ishpeming turns instead of eagle mills turns, or doing misc dog catch work. This would also mean the road job to the Soo prolly doesn't have DPUs and...

Re: HESR vs LSRC...Battle for customers and traffic
They have everything to worry about, the GW charges an arm and leg for their "safe premier" rail service and it has cost them a lot of lost revenue. If it's cheaper to get the cars in flint why would anybody stay with the HESR.

They run on AAR Channel 22, when the road job shows up in the afternoon one of the crews will usually jump over to AAR 80. Road job usually comes in from baldwin anytime from 1300-1700 and heads back to baldwin. Yard job switches the yard most of the day, then goes to Oxy, Sargent Sand, and Cal Chlo...

A few years ago they would allow cameras on site, somebody over in Minnosota took the tour and made a smear campaign in YouTube about how bad mining is. Ever since then Cliffs has been zero tolerance to cameras on site.

The only thing it costs to run that train is the fuel. All the employees donate their time and energy for the train. No body that works it is paid. Too bad it's not gonna happen, I always enjoyed bringing my nieces and nephews along for the chase.

the car was too far gone even before the vandalism to save. The body rusted through. Made more sense to scrap than fix.

seem to recall the money for the NS line was part of the Obama stimulus, so the state didn't actually pay for that part.

This thread is beyond funny. PLAIN AND SIMPLE..... Jumper wires applied to the correct terminal create a short if you will on the track relays and will not show if a switch indicator is lined improperly. How do jumper wires get there? By a human of course. Someone failed to follow protocol applied j...

13:45 EDT Z15121 GOT THEIR EC1 TO HEAD SOUTH AROUND 13:00. SHOULD BE IN WYOMING YARD BY NOW. Well, so much for the mandated "night schedule"... LOL Did anybody think that maybe the high heat and Welded rail in the area the last two or three weeks had anything to do with trains running at night?.......

To ship a hazardous material via rail, the track needs be Class 1 to make it easy, that is 10mph with very minimal standards 7-8 good ties per 39 foot depending on the degree of curve. You can move hazardous materials over Excepted track as long as you only carry it in units of 5 cars per entire tra...
