Re: Railroads of Battle Creek - Pure Michigan Trains

Nichols Tower was staffed right up to the consolidation by Conrail employees. One can just about picture the old location in the video by just visualizing the CR track continuing to curve to the right and mentally placing where they would cross the CN tracks. (This would be in the shots at the east ...

Re: Railroads of Battle Creek - Pure Michigan Trains

Nice video, but the name of the tower where the GT and MC or NYC crossed each other was called Nichols. Baron wasn't created until the consolidation of the two lines through town was formed. The very west end of Baron when it was first built was directly outside of the doors to the dispatcher's offi...

Re: Conrail yard job symbols in Grand Rapids

Darned if I can remember that job symbol even though I worked it as Engineer when John Benson was the helper and Bob Anderson was the Conductor for quite a while. Had a good time with those two.

NS also runs through Springfield and if the birds were hit by an Amtrak, it would have been on the NS.

Re: Lansing's "Snow Yard"?

Snow Yard (or what's left of it) would be a little ways east (Timetable Direction) from that Delta Yard, roughly between Millet Hwy and Mt. Hope Rd. Snow Rd ends about where the old yard office stands. Lansing Rd runs right alongside of the yard on the (timetable) south side of the tracks. If you're...

Re: Lansing Manufacturers Railroad 1904-1969

The little yard along side of the GTW was referred to as the New Yard. There was shuttle service between 3 plants, the Jet Plant, Fisher Body, and the Olds Main Plant, we'd hand off cars to the GTW/CN and they'd spot up some dock off of their tracks. NYC, PC, then CR also did some other switching at...

Re: GLC Derailment in Clare

That reporter who wrote the story in the link that Standard Railfan posted didn't get all of her terminology correct. Here's part of the first sentence in the second paragraph: "A Great Lakes Central Railroad locomotive engineer picked a switch......" I only spent about 40 years on the railroad runn...

Re: Pedestrian hit by train in Dexter

All of the tracks in and around Dexter are curved enough to the point where at the speeds Amtrak does travel in that area there wouldn't be enough time for an Amtrak to stop even if the Engineer did put the brakes in emergency as soon as he saw an object that did look like a sleeping bag.

Re: What line is the Saginaw Valley Rail Trail?

Rough description would be that the tracks are in at Chesaning and go to Owosso, gone from Owosso to Lansing, and in from Lansing to Jackson. Operated now by the JAIL RR, which is operated by the same outfit that runs the Adrian & Blissfield. GLC runs the portion still in from Owosso to Chesaning.

FYI 1225 will be pulling a trip from Mt. Pleasant to Cadillac for the "Back to the Bricks" classic car show on June 6. Sounds like the train will consist of bi-levels and two cabooses as well as the usual coaches. Info at michiganstemtrain.com . Fisrt time in some years the 1225 has been to Cadilla...

Re: Cellphone Interference

Don't know if NS is still having this problem but back when I was still working, (2009) the RailVeiw Cams that NS was putting in all of their units was on some units causing a HUGE interference on 160.800 which in my area was Road Channel #1. We found this out by getting permission to temporarily pu...

Re: School Bus/ train collison

Don't remember the exact years, probably in the mid to late 90's. Both times, not the driver's fault, both times, nobody on the bus. Both times, the bus had stalled after doing it's mandatory stop with the doors open for whatever length of time and when starting to move ahead, engine stalled. First ...
