Re: Michigan shortline updates: February
5:50pm, 2014 has red over yellow signal at Mershom. This appears to be a different job than the 740. They have a large cut of empty hoppers, 5 tanks, one center flow, 4 more tanks, and two NS hoppers. They crossed the river headed east. Must be the new power for the thumb

Re: Michigan shortline updates: February
740 is still sitting in the genesee yard at 5:35 with red signals at Mershon. I assume they are waiting on 701 to make some space. Interesting move at approx 4 this afternoon. Caught one of the RA locos leading CORP 3838 with a mixed consist. Looked like a thumb mix, possibly moving 800 job power ar...

Busy morning in Carrolton today. Lake state 1179 came across the river to switch Gavillion grain. They cleared just in time for HESRs Durrand job to head south at approximately 10:40. As 10:50 LSRC 1179 is about half way through setting off its empties

Re: Keystone Pipeline and Oil by Rail
Oh, BTW, this morning I read a news article about a new procedure of extracting heat from coal without burning it. If that works on a large scale it'll be a bonanza for the mines and rails. What is old is new again. It seems this is not much different from the old manufactured gas processes. Basica...

No Paines traffic as the line is still blocked just east of Center rd in Saginaw twp. It was too dark to see down the grade today, but CRS/Shaw still had equipment in the ROW this evening.SD80MAC wrote:It might've been another Z job going to Paines. Z126 is the train that goes up to Bay City.

Evan, 5086, 9580, 5175 and the switcher are sitting in what is more or less the dead/out of service line. Chances are you heard another engine idling behind that group. I don't believe 5086 is OOS yet, just this past week it was on the 702 job. 5175 is a different story..But thank you for the infor...

HESR 702 with CMGN 2014 and HESR 2668 heading south through Saginaw at 1222. Sounded like the grain train was HESR 771, indeed went to Auburn. Caught 702 in Lennon around 2:30. Rather large train, covered most of the ground from M13 to M21. They stopped at Lennon to let off the conductor who then w...

Re: LSRC Derailment
Nothing new on this chunk of rail. About 3 years ago I was redoing a parking lot at the school north of the line and in rolled Hulcher. They unloaded and built their side booms out on Center rd where it is 3 lanes. They then tracked the quarter mile south to head about 700 feet west of the grade to ...

HSER 2668 crossed the Saginaw river at 3:50pm today. Running solo with a healthy consist, they will be hitting Durand late again. Wonder what has brought on this afternoon run?

HSER Durand job went south through the Genesee yard at 350pm today with both the UP engines. Seems awfully late. At the same time it looks like the 800 job was working the Genesee yard. Power was HSER 3865 and 3867.

Re: Trains carry more oil across the U.S.
Big picture is that BNSF is benefitting from the Bakken Crude in the Dakotas and not the Alberta tar sands, which is what the Keystone XL would carry. Also both CSX & NS are benefitting from the transporting of the Bakken Crude to both East Coast Refineries & East Coast ports, so it's not like they...

Re: Ore to take a Major hit in 2013
Not only are there economic forces in play here, but also seasonal. Typically, work at the steel mills using these raw products get shut down during the summer. This is done to allow construction and maintenance work to be done on their facilities. This is also why you see scrap prices, and shipment...

I don't know if this has been reported, but they've started demolishing the old Pioneer Sugar elevators in Carrolton. Im not sure where you have gotten your information on this demolition, but it doesn't appear to be the case. I was by there today, and nothing has changed from earlier this year. Th...

Also, I know the elevator to the south, Their Carrolton location is served by SBS. If memory serves me right, the Zilwaukee elevator HESR served this elevator, would that remain the case? I believe you are correct that HESR services the Zilwaukee elevator whiloe LSRC services the Carrolton one. Alt...

Re: Michigan Rail Business news
Possible future car loads returning to the Zilwaukee Peavy Elevator? Over the last months there seems to have been some construction going on inside this elevator. I have heard they are upgrading handling equipment, and the floors in bins. This leads me to wonder if Peavy is going to sell this eleva...
