Re: Picture of EMDX 1201 Unwrapped
There is no Cat engine in it unless you now consider EMD engines cat engines. Just a typical display for a trade show. Cat has always wanted EMD's engines, now they have them. Cat really doesnt want the engines, Cat wants the electric drive components for their large mining equipment. This is where...

Re: LSRC/HESR/GLC/AA Updates: September 2012
HESR 740 was working down at Monitor Sugar in Bay City around 1630, with the 5492 and 2014. Have the sugar beets started running yet? They have been running for a few weeks. Seems like about 20 cars on the last few 740 jobs I have seen. The former plant in Carrolton has a ton of tank cars right now...

It sure looks more like Caterpillar now! Too bad they bought them; it's not horrible looking though!!!! This one was painted up for...

Re: Michigan Rail Business news
"Possibly another victim of the new EPA standards backed by this current administration regarding coal fired plant emmissions." That's a simplistic view of the situation. Consumers and DTE have a number of smaller, older coal-fired facilities that simply don't make economic sense to keep operating ...

HESR 702 should be in Durand with-in the hour. Power is 5086/5175 caught them at stone island rd. just out of Bay City around 1pm. Sugar beets are in full swing with 20 loads on the 800 and 5 empties on the 740. The 800 had 3866/3852 for power and the 740 has 2014. Where do the beet loads originate...

Looks like there is some MOW work on the HSER line. I saw a spread of MOW equipment parked at the Peavy Elevator, the former ADM elevator.
I also see that LSRC is replacing/reconnecting the Washington St/M13 crossing into Wabash

Re: New Business for the Lake State
There may be some traffic returning to Grey Iron/SMCO in the future. Talking to several guys that work in the plant recently. It sounds like by the end of August they will shut down for a major retool. Sounds like this will include two new furnaces being installed. They will cast blocks, heads, and ...

Those ties have been stacked for some time. They are dry as a bone, and full of creosote, so they catch easily, and burn hot.cmgnnut wrote:The fire I saw were all piles of ties left out along the tracks no brush around them - smells fishy to me

Re: New NS unit dirt train?
Can anyone point out this place where the trains take this dirt from, because I'm having a hard time finding it. No idea on start point. Probably all over the place. If this dirt is going to EQ, then it is probably contaminated with Volatile Organic Compounds. That is what EQ is set up to handle, a...

Re: New NS unit dirt train?
Yup. It seems to be happening. The NS crews are talking about it-for what that is worth. It should be contaminated dirt that is coming from out east somewhere to be disposed of in the Detroit area. I had heard that there my be some sort of process that cooks the contaminants out of the dirt before ...
