Re: CSX N. Baltimore Hub "Taking Shape"
Digging this one up again-Has anyone been through North Baltimore lately, and how much more work has been done? Are the cranes up yet?

Re: Train lengths on CSX trains.
Also what kind of speed can you guys get out of a big train like that? As far as I know, the speed of the train is not restricted by length. BNSF runs 120+ car (Technically 120 well) intermodal trains at 70MPH in New Mexico and Arizona, among other places. For intermodal trains, the speed is more a...

Re: BP sponsers fireworks in Lousiana..
Maybe true to some extent, but if people buy less gas from BP, they will buy more gas from other places. These places will need more employees, and will hire people, so it's really just a shift, not a loss, of jobs.

Re: Longest main line slow order I think I've ever seen.
I guess you guys are all too young to remember the Penn Central.... Talk about slow orders... It used to take about 12 hours to get a freight train from Elkhart to Jackson. And this was supposed to be a "Mainline"... I'm not going to try to figure out the average speed right now, but I recall there...

Re: BP sponsors fireworks in Lousiana..
Absolutely sickening. This only motivates me to boycott BP even more, even though the 3 closest stations to my house are ALL BP.

Re: So You Want to Be a Yardmaster? 6/25 3rd Hump
I love Tuch's stories. He has many from when he worked on the MoPac Chicago Sub (now the UP Villa Grove Sub) so they all are easy for me to play out in my head. Are you talking about scattered references, or dedicated articles? The only MoPac one I recall is the Hammond local. I have only seen the ...

Re: So You Want to Be a Yardmaster? 6/25 3rd Hump
I'd like to start out by thanking CSX_CO for the excellent report. Always like hearing about the operational side of railroads more than anything else. This was a outstanding report! Really cool to see how a night goes in the yard! :D Post another one in the future! I have one question,is there a li...

Re: GLC Trackwork Project
Eventually the siding in Osmer should A be lengthened or B they are going to add another one siding so they have more room for interchange. It would be a real hassle to lengthen the siding, due to the fact that it is bookended by crossings on both ends. They would either have to cut the crossing ev...

Re: NS Starts new steam program!!!
While people may (or may not) be interested in your opinion, you need to relax, enjoy the hobby and stop trying to decide what is best for Norfolk Southern. Sometimes it helps to think before you speak. I did think about this, and I was only providing an alternate viewpoint. I'm sorry if I have off...

Re: One less Class 1 in the Capital City?
Hearing about this as well, maybe from the same source, who knows. But here's what I heard: NS is indeed going to do SOMETHING with the Lansing Secondary...and the announcement about it will come within the next 24-hours (I.E. Tomorrow, July 1, 2010). I don't know if it's being sold or leased, but ...

Is that SD45-2M designation correct? It was always my understanding that the M after the numbers meant widecab. Wierd.

Re: NS Starts new steam program!!!
From a corporate / PR standpoint you could produce a wonderful show/display of this is where we came from and look how far we've progressed! (with steamers & modern diesels/gensets in the same venue) that will more powerfully emphasize how efficient, progressive and "green" today's railroads are th...

Re: NS Starts new steam program!!!
Seth you dont know squat about steam do you? Its ok, not taking a jab at you, just what I see. It's like family pride. You couldn't be more correct, I don't know (or care) about steam locomotives at all. To me, they are not any more (and probably less) interesting technologically than any diesel lo...

Re: NS Starts new steam program!!!
No, I'm not. I'm merely saying that for NS to bill rail as a "green" mode of transportation, than to put steam locomotives (admit it, not "green") at the front of their PR scheme sure sends a mixed message, right?Steel Inferno wrote: Polluting relics??? What are you. A tree hugger! Yikes!
