Re: BP sponsers fireworks in Lousiana..

THANK YOU BEN!!!!! Also, remember that we could massively expand and electrify the railroads of this country, and would only have to rely on oil to get the goods from intermodal terminals to the stores. If many more intermodal terminals were built, than these hauls would be much shorter. If we could...

Re: Corrupt a Wish

Granted- the workers work hastily to finish early, leaving the road in much worse shape than before the project started. If you go over 10mph, your vehicle will be jostled to the point of breaking.

I wish that there was at least one female the same age as me who didn't completely hate me.

Re: Tilden Mine Tour

I took the tour twice, the first time was in 2005 we could take photos, the second time was last week with Tyler, Claire (she's smokin' hot) said some hippies used their photos that they took at a minn. mine tour to make an anti mining smear campaign. I guess she must be the only guide :D . I'm gue...

Re: Your Preference on Engine Looks

What do you guys like when it comes to engines? Do you like the fresh paint, or straight up clean units? Or are you like me and you like the worn, torn, beat to hell, ratty looking engines? There's nothing worse than a CSX YN2 widecab that's covered in rust streaks and has random tubes sticking out...

Stewart J. Cort

This has been bugging me for a while. The first 1000' lake freighter, the Stewart J. Cort , was constructed in the most unorthodox way I can imagine. Her bow and stern, containing the pilothouse and engine room respectively, were built in Pascagoula, Mississippi. They were welded together, and were ...

BNSF Allouez Bay ore docks

As some of you may know, I was in Duluth/Superior during a summer program at Michigan Tech. While driving around, somebody told me that the BNSF ore dock in Superior (Allouez Bay) was closed. I found this hard to believe, but would like to know more. There were a lot of weeds and trees growing on an...

Re: "Rail and Intermodal Transportation"

The bad part with the RR is getting transferred from location to location for promotions and getting called out in the middle of the night when the boys and girls put a train on the ground and the track needs to be put back together ASAP. But the pay and benefits are good. That's ok that the railro...

Re: Wolverine questions

Well, were there any other trains in the area? If so, there was probably a problem with another train in the area. If not, there was either a problem with the equipment, a crew member or passenger, or there was track work. Did you hear/see anything related to this?

Re: "Rail and Intermodal Transportation"

Going to join Pasi's Posse eh? My nieces boyfriend graduated with a BSCE from Tech in 2005 and went to work for BNSF. He was a Road master for a few years, first in Minneapolis and then Albuquerque. Now he is the system wide grinding train supervisor based out of Ft Worth. He wasn't hired as a road...

Re: Tilden Mine Tour

It's a great tour. It still amazes me they still take you into the plant and let you look through the fire proof glass into the kiln. Must be the legal dept isn't aware of the tours yet  It's not really that dangerous in any way, but the tour does seem like something that lawyers are just wai...

"Rail and Intermodal Transportation"

For all of those who don't know, Michigan Tech University offers myriad Summer Youth Programs, where students can learn about a subject that is more specific than something that could be taught in school. The programs run from Sunday to the following Friday, with five actual days of learning. Overal...

Tilden Mine Tour

A few months ago, I was kindly directed by Raildudes Dad toward a summer youth program at Michigan Tech called "Rail and Intermodal Transportation." Since I knew there was no other summer camp that would compare to this, I decided to go. In planning the transportation aspect of the trip, my family d...

Re: Lansing's GTW Depot site to become power plant

Yeah, that many less coal trains on the CN. Coal is the bread and butter of the BNSF and UP. Can you imagine Grand Island, or the UP in Nebraska without coal trains???  Yes, the single greatest challenge the railroads are going to have to face is replacing coal revenue with revenue from ...
