Re: NS West Virginia Secondary-Columbus Oh to Alloy WV
Stay tuned, new cracker plants are opening and more are planned for the area...And many railroads will get in on them. You’re talking about a process that requires natural gas. The line in question is on the fringe of the proven reserves, so with a third in the area of the proven reserves under con...

Yes on the west side of South Point in an area known as the Point Industrial Park. There are already rail spurs here and materials like silica, alumina, carbon black, and limestone will be shipped in. Not sure what will be shipped out and how it will be shipped. I know where its at, been by it many...

Re: George Carlin Dubbing Thomas the Tank Engine (18+)
I loved the original Thomas the tank engine when I was a kid. I can honestly at 26 years old sit down and still watch it.
I feel like after they moved away from the model railroad version it went down hill.

Les why hasn't your connection at NS told you what changed with the CCET? If they know anything important they would have known that NS changed the lease stips on the interchange. CCET isn't required to interchange with just NS at Clare anymore. They were trying to work something out with G&W to ge...

This year when production of the GM cutout vans starts at Navistar, look for truck frames to be rolling down from Flat Rock Yard to Springfield. I looked on google maps. There's what appears to be a transload close to the plant but, no direct access. How do they plan to get the frames into the plant?

Re: CN Pontiac-Orion Line Operations
The plastics industry has developed this perfectly. There are yards of nothing but plastics cars awaiting distribution. The cars act as a rolling warehouse for the plastic pellets. The lumber industry used to work this way as well. Cars would be shipped to a "yard" awaiting a customer to be assigne...

Re: DT&I/GT traffic 1980/1 vs 1985ish?
The creation of NS didn't really effect the DT&I/GT. If anything it might have increased traffic some. Do yourself a favor and buy the DT&I-GT 9 DVD set. You'll see plenty of trains with NS power. They might have lost traffic when CSX was created like the coal trains for Detroit coming off the L&N....

Re: C&O- Ohio River to Toledo
I guess the same question could be asked about the N&W from Portsmouth to Columbus and beyond. Columbus District is still plenty busy. Daily (or almost): 233 (235 on Sundays) 234 236 29G 195 217 218 272 17M 194 188 961 ((963) This runs most days, power move to Elkhart) L53 (1201a M-F) L55 (0600a M-...

DT&I/GT traffic 1980/1 vs 1985ish?
How did the mergers of the early 80s effect the traffic and connections on the DT&I/GT?

Re: N&W reach Columbus?
Back in the 1950s the PRR owned a majority owner of both the DT&I and N&W. PRR looked into having the N&W buy the PRR Morrow Secondary branch from where it crossed the N&W at Circleville west to Washington CH and then buying the DT&I. It obviously didn't happen and instead PRR sold the Sandusky bra...

N&W reach Columbus?
I'm working (on paper) an idea of something similar to the B&LE except in Ohio. Basically, combine the Hocking Valley (C&O instead heads towards St Louis instead of Toledo) Columbus to Toledo line, with an additional line to Portsmouth to serve the still very active steel mills (coke plant as well)....
