Juniata Diesel Conversions

Unread post by Notch 8 »

While in Fort Wayne today I buzzed by the East Wayne Yard and caught a NS Unit Grain Train that had a new SD60E conversion on as a leader..

The number board overhang looks...odd :? Not bad mind you, I can't figure out what's different.

I don't like the overhang either...I always have preferred the SD70ACe style cab....(same with the GEVOS...roughly the same as an ACe)

Completely new cab designed and built by Juniata. These started out as spartan cab SD60's.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question or if I'm missing something, but on the FW Railfan site link to the pics in the original post by Notch8, it says the following:

- Classified by NS as power group 5, 8 axles of power, 8 axles of extended range/high capacity dynamics

Aren't there only 6 axles? :?

Yes but for power purposus it counts as more. It has to do with train handeling and running the train then with physical axles.
