I would guess the 83 & 89 are due 92 day or something else. I would hope not storage.

If you're taking requests...

How about UP 8373? Can you tell what train it was on Sunday afternoon?

Here's why I ask:

Charles, your train was WBLYCD 17 -- Dump (Ballast) train from Bloomington, IL to Yard Center. And since you saw them in Rochelle means from Bloomington, they went southwest to Springfield, then turned north on the former CNW at I&M Jct. and went north to Nelson and got on the Geneva Sub to head east into Chicago. 33 loads, 1983feet. I've had one of these puppies before...no fun...40mph train. It has a conveyor that runs the entire length of the train and that head car is the end of it, where the ballast is offloaded, I guess. I'm not exactly sure how it works. Train was made up of GREX 2200-2216 and GREX 2615-2600.

Thanks Bob. I will add that the first car and the last car are pretty much the same, just with the end of the conveyor pointing in different directions. I'd heard of these contraptions, but this was my first time seeing it in person. Thanks also for the explanation.

Any time, Charles. There must have been two sets of them in the train. The 2200-2216 set must've had a conveyor, and 2600-2615 set had it's own conveyor, as well...

Allegedly, these two are headed to storage...
Any special requests?
How many unpatched SP/SSW units are left?

I'll believe it when I see it. UP doesn't care what they put into storage. They have some quite new units in storage. It seems there's different levels of storage. There's long term storage (the long lines of power you see) and short term storage. For short term storage, it's basically a term slapped on the unit when it's sitting idle, even if only a few days. Quite a few times I've had a train out of Proviso where my power has showed "Stored (Servicable)" before departing. Can be anything, from the junkiest SD70M to a new GE.

Wish I could tell you, but UP doesn't keep paint information on their system  (atleast not available to the TE&Y personnel)
