Status of CSX and their SD45-2s

Unread post by Racer »

Does anyone know if CSX has any YN2 or YN3 SD45-2s still in active service? I've heard they are all in storage.

The 8889 is the only one that I know of, and it's an SD40-2 in an SD45-2 carbody. Not sure if it's active or not.

In fact, while I have started this thread, does CSX still have their B40-8s?

Yes, but they're B20-8's now.

It looks like only half of the B40-8s were changed over to B20-8 standards.

Haven't seen any B40-8's up here in years. Do they keep them all down south like they seemed to do with the Dash 7 fleet?

Yup, pretty much all of them hang around GA and SC.

I saw 8886 like sixth or seventh out on Q-364 on Tuesday. It was in YN-3 and I would have to imagine it's still active.

I was told a a couple months ago that 8954 was stored bad order in Huntington, West Virginia.

8954 is indeed stored, and retirement is undoubtedly next up. Sad, but what an impressive run it had.

What Dash 7 fleet? Aren't they all retired (or at least stored)? Last time I checked the Bull Sheet roster, it only showed 3 B36-7's not retired, but they were stored. The B30-7's were all retired.

That's why I said, like they seemed to do...

8889, the 40-2 in a 45-2 carbody is indeed stored. It has not moved since Feb. 8954, a TRUE SD45-2, is also stored, not having moved since March.

What about the 8886? I thought I had heard it was active.
