OK, I wasn't sure if "Dearborn DIV." was somewhere in Ohio. I read on May 9, a post from YpsiAmtrakBoy that shows "Dearborn, Michigan!" This was posted: July 28-29: Dearborn Division, Dearborn, Mich.

This posted too, by C30-7A : Just to clarify, the dates most on this site will be concerned with are July 14-15th (Lake Division) and 28-29th (Dearborn Division). The Lake Division includes the former NKP mainline from Chicago to Fort Wayne and on to Bellevue as well as the ex-Wabash main from Fort Wayne to Detroit. The Dearborn Division includes the Chicago Line, Detroit Line and the Michigan Line.

Thanks for that clarification, there has been some confusion whether that meant Michigan or not -- it is certainly the Division, and Toledo only. The contract with Norfolk Southern is a multi-year contract, so Michigan and other points including our own home state, may be on the timetable in the future.

The deadheads are not scheduled, so it's whenever they can fit us in.

They are testing the engine today in Indiana:
The test train is operating between Fort Wayne and Muncie with NS's Nickel Plate heritage engine No. 8100 assisting.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet. But they now have an iPhone and Android app to show the location of 765. There is also a website that will show you real time.

WHAT'S THE ROUTE?—JULY 28TH RUN!!!!

Unread post by Robertrains »

This is a little bit confusing! The steam trip (on my birthday) shows "Homestead Yard – Airline Junction (3 trips)!" Now, this map shows where Airline Junction is located! It looks to be very short trips and is not a straight route—that would make chasing very easy! Does anyone know times for the 3 trips? I'll be photographing/videotaping it!

Here's the map of Airline Junction (Homestead Yard is in the upper right):

That gave me a good laugh! The route from NS Homestead yard in Oregon down to Toledo yard is almost completely un-chaseable. If they go more than 10mph they'll completely smoke you trying to get ahead of them on city streets - let alone getting over the river! The Toledo trips will be very much a get one shot each direction, each trip type of scenario... (and it'd border on stupid to even try "chasing" per se)

MDH, was it posted somewhere on TO as to what times the 3 runs will be on Sat and Sun for Toledo? If so, can you post it here as I can't see archives over there.

How was that thread missed? I was looking for the schedule for a while! Thanx! Now, I don't envision "Chasing" much! Using the DeLorme Detailed map should help with "Following" the train somewhat!

NKP 765 Toledo Trip Schedule CHANGE!

Unread post by MDH »

For anyone planning on heading to Toledo this weekend to catch the NKP 765 trips, you need to be aware of these significant schedule changes:

Instead of 3 trips - there will only be 2 trips, departing Homestead yard in Oregon at 11AM and 2PM.

The original route was going to be from Homestead down the Toledo Belt to CP 286, over the Maumee and spinning the train around Toledo yard (CP 289 - CP 56 - CP 292) and then back to Homestead. THIS IS NO LONGER THE ROUTE.

The new route will start the same, Homestead down the Toledo Belt to CP 286 and over the Maumee but then dropping down to Sumner Street yard at 287 and heading down to Maumee. The train will be turned around the wye in Maumee and then return north to Homestead yard.

I am very confident of the accuracy of that information.

As a note, the new route makes a lot more sense than the original proposed route - rather than making the awkward spin move around Toledo yard on the mainlines it limits the time on the Chicago main to one mile (CP 286 to CP 287) to get over the Maumee river, otherwise the excursion will be much more out of the way of normal operations. It will also be a fairly slow speed trip down to Maumee which will make it possible to get more than one shot, but "chasing" will still be challenging at best and I'd urge caution since it'll still be mostly city driving. A practical approach would be to get one shot on the east side, cross the river and take the Anthony Wayne trail down to where you might want a second shot on the line to Maumee for example.

Good luck,
Michael

We've been updating routing and points of information here:

http://www.fortwaynerailroad.org/track765.html

And since it's been pointed out, has anyone else had a devil of a time searching for "765" or "NKP 765" in the Search bar? It always tells me there are no results found.

This sounds heck of a lot better than the other routing; Better neighborhoods as well.

2 Questions I have:

1.) Will they be running on Sunday?

2.) Are they wying the train over by Illinois Avenue?

Yes - I think the times are for both days
Chrisracer8903 wrote:

Yes, the wye between Conant St & Illinois Ave would be where they spin the train:
