CSX YN2 Paint List

Unread post by BL2-1843 »

With only one Conrail, and one YN1 unit remaining on CSX, Here is a new Pre YN3 paint list thread.

I have made 43 paint changes this afternoon, all discovered since 9-1-12. 2 were YN1 to YN3 changes, (1518 & 8404) 41 were YN2 to YN3 changes. In addition, on 9-1-12, I made 29 paint changes, discovered since 6-1-12, all YN2 to YN3 which I don't believe I have reported on this link yet.

With todays changes, I am now showing, in addition to the one CR and one YN1 unit remaining, 1,141 units remaining in YN2, and 3,025 units now in YN3 (including those with railcar HTM logo's. Of the 1,141 YN2 units remaining, I show 953 are GE, and 188 EMD.

YN2 to YN3 paint changes made today, in numerical order, all verified by photo are:

12, 41, 201, 250, 384, 432, 620, 662, 1538, 2313, 4572, 5934, 5940, 5949, 6026, 6244, 6410, 7320, 7501,7526,7568,

7658,7684, 7730,7743,7775, 7806,7830, 7903, 7906, 8034 to SD40-3 rebuild 4047, 8079 to SD40-3 rebuild 4044,

8087 to SD40-3 rebuild 4045, 8140, 8467, 8586, 8642, 8708, 8870, 9050.

Just in case I did not post my 9-1-12 paint changes, in the previous Pre YN2 paint list thread (all YN2 to YN3) those included:

3, 72, 106, 107,304, 417, 419, 447,489,492, 538, 678, 2203, 2736,278, 2808, 4699, 6467, 7364, 7536, 7728, 7853,

8106, 8226, 8453, 8513, 8534, 8638, 9010

Of these, I am still searching for a photo of 2768 and 8638 to verify the reported painting if anyone can help.

Do you have a simple top-to-bottom list you can post then update by any chance?

So are you asking for a list of all 1,141 locomotives remaining in YN2? I have that, and could post it, but was hoping this total would be further cut in half before the point came where it would be feasible to do so. For starters, it may be interesting to know the amount of YN2 units in each model/ number series etc. Or, just check The Bull Sheet YN3 paint list, and assume anything not there is YN2 on the full roster.

Thanks DTI for the 8638 photo link.

Yes

I suppose you could (and probably should) wait until a later date when we're down to only a few hundred units. I'm a number nerd, so I enjoy pouring over lists, even ones that are extremely long.

What type of EMD's are still in YN2? Since there are only 188 in YN2 that'd be easier to see a break down of. I just want a simple list.
Ex. SD40-2: 23 or something like that. Thanks. :)
This is my life. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

If this is a problem get used to it.

EDIT: There are 187 units in YN2 as a correction. Numbers correct below.

Being "only" 187 EMD I have listed the numbers and models below. Quite a few of these are long term stored, so there are far less EMD YN2 units out and running than what are showed here.

CSXT 1534 has been OOS in Russel for sometime (09-10'). She is the "First" active CR GP15-1, but if I look at the data correctly, I think she'll be in one of the next batches to LTEX. Shame as I really like that locomotive A LOT.

All the information I can find online about CSX 8249 is that it is an SD40-2. Is this one of those units that it's exterior is the same, but was internally rebuilt to an SD40-2 - similar to CSX 8886 that was an SD45-2?

Just another computer downgrade, like the GP40-2 to GP38S, SD50 to SD50-2, B40-8 to B20-8 etc. 8249 was downgraded in late 2010 or early 2011 if I remember right. Only one done other than the 2443-2445 group.

8181 in YN2 today in Detroit.

Also, Shot CSXT 4409 in the new Boxcar scheme. I believe one of the first GP40-2's to be painted in that?

THANKS for that Info Charlie. Only ten days ago I was sent a photo of 4409 AND 4402 in YN2 at Huntington just after there arrival their for work and paint. They did that one fast. Hope to find a photo of it soon somewhere. Watch for 4402 soon as well. Yes, that would be the first GP40-2 in YN3 with the Boxcar scheme.

Saw your photos on Flickr Charlie X90. You were indeed the first person to post a GP40-2 BoxCar Logo unit.

A few more units have gotten a dip:

#2671 [GP38-2]
#4402 [GP40-2]
#681 [AC60CW]
#8196 [SD40-2]
#7389 [C40-8W]

That leaves 952 GE's, 180 EMD's, for 1132 total as of 1-18.

Kind of a worthless note, but one of the YN2 SD60Ms still running around, 8767, was the first Conrail unit, on EITHER CSX or NS to be fully repainted after the 1999 split. Will be interesting to see how long this unit survives in YN2.
Sean Gulden photo at Selkirk, NY last year.

Also, what are the last CR and YN1 units?

Saw CSX 270 today and it was in fresh 'boxcar logo' paint. Not sure when it happened, but it didn't have much mud on the running gear so it had to be recently repainted.
