NYSW SD70M's Changing Home Again

Unread post by Y@ »

I&O has dealt them to Florida East Coast in exchange for some FEC SD40-2's. For anyone who didn't know, these were on long-term lease to the Indiana & Ohio Ry. after spending little time with their home road, the Susie Q.

This should provide them with some much needed sun and warmth after many long cold winters here in Ohio.

I don't think they've left yet but it should be soon.

Its logical, those NYSW units are probably better for intermodal service, although I wish I got more pictures of them.

True, but I&O beat them up pretty bad. They came in looking really nice, but now they look like they've been around for 40 years. I can't imagine how bad the FEC SD40-2's are going to end up...

4054 went north on 400 today paired with SD40-2 4083. If one is around, they all should be, but it won't be long now before they're gone.

4052 is in Cincinnati right now... My guess is that 4050 is probably there too, but I can't confirm that.

So they're finally there... only about 7 months after I said it wouldn't be too long now... Oh well, I'm used to being wrong I suppose. Glad I got shots of them while they were here.

Now, to get those FEC SD40-2's! Does anyone know if they're here yet, or is FEC gonna pull an I&O and wait a year?

A handful of FEC SD40-2s have gone to the AGR and NECR, but don't look for any on the I&O anytime soon (if ever). Current management seems to think we're overpowered right now as it is. FWIW, I haven't seen the 4050 or 4054 in quite some time. The 400/401 trains have been running with SD40-2 pairs for the most part, with the odd GP38-2 thrown in.
