Posted a couple of new videos on Gladstone Yard....not the best quality video but it shows what I've done as far as scenery goes. There is no sound but some background noise. My layout is slowly coming http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3UF7BVizsg

can i be honest.....and not one to nitpick a layout, but the foreground is really nice, but you should loose those things in the background...they really are a distraction from the nice work you have done so far. I think if you put your mind to it and take your time, you can make that look so much better.

Don't worry about nit picking thats what helps us make a better layout. The "hills" or chunks in the background are the base for the forest I will be installing soon. I just sat them there to see how they would fit and if I needed to make changes before I covered them with trees. I will have a "sky" background eventually too.....To be honest I thought they looked a little cheesy too after I took the pictures(video)....

Update on the layout has 3 pictures. The model railroaders nemesis is selective compression. All surfaces have a base coat of green paint except the river, I haven't got to that yet. The first photo shows the future area for the E & LS Wells, MI yard and roundhouse and wye. You can see the lines for the wye drawn on the top of the surface and the rest of the benchwork in this area is not complete yet. The second photo shows the CN/WC Ore Sub crossing over the Escanaba River and the E &LS line to Channing. I don't think the bridge is accurate but I like it. It is also "shorter" than the prototype. I placed it temporairly to check clearance. The track in the upper right of the photo is the turn to Gladstone. The track in the upper left is the line that supposed to go to Groos and the paper plant, but sadly I had to leave it off the layout as I did not have enough room to do it justice. I figure I could continue the track along the back of the layout and use it for something. The last photo is another view/angle of the CN/WC ore sub crossing over the the line from Gladstone. The bridge is just there for right now. Where the track crosses the River again I had to selectively compress it. Will probably do 3 Truss Bridge Spans instead of the 8 on the prototype. Slowly but surely its coming along......

I like how you're sticking to prototype, rdenman62. Too bad you can't fit the paper plant in. It would be a good switching operation for you.
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

Yes it would be a great switching operation,,but did not have enough space. Tried to talk the wife into letting me open the wall up into the bathroom but that did not go over too well.........thought I might do a few sidings with the paper plant on a backdrop though. Just not sure how to accomplish that with the limited space in that area.....

Update here on the Gladstone Yard layout. Have been busy building the upper deck and installing lighting. Also completed the benchwork and some track laying for the E & LS yard at Wells, MI. The 4 photos I posted show what I have gotten done since my last update. Track is not permament yet in the yard area yet but the elevated track over the bridges are. Compression of the entire Wells and Escanaba area was necessary to include what I wanted. Progress is slowed at this point however, until I acquire more turnouts and track. The one area not yet decided on is the ore yard area in Escanaba....don't have all the room necessary but may decide on a greatly reduced version......
The other photos show the lighting I installed under the upper deck for Gladstone Yard....I absolutley think this greatly enhances the layout...............................
Anyways check out the photos......wish I could figure out how to post them right on here......

I just enjoyed reviewing all the posts and some of the videos about your layout. Your doing a great job and you have a good concept for the layout.

Do you have a helix connecting the two levels and if so how was constructing it?

What type of lighting are you using - it looks good in the pics?

Bill

Thanks for the compliments..............
I will eventually have 2 decks as the upper deck will be the line from Gladstone to Trout Lake/Sault Ste Marie......
No helix as yet but will have one here in the near future. I am going to use an oval shape helix. Seen one in the Kalmbach Book on helix design and I think it will work for me also there is one on a website I seen. N scale Pocahontas Division or something like that. Here is the link if you're interested: (http://users.rcn.com/weyand/tractronics ... xartcl.htm).....The lighting I am using are linkable flourescent lights. You can link 5 together with one power cord. American Lighting I believe is the manufacturer. They do work really well and I like the "color" of the lights...Purchased them at Walmart for around $9.00 per light. Currently over the yard I have 6 light fixtures. Spreading them out a little more will allow 5 per side in the train room. Need to pick up 5 more to finish the other side of the layout once the upper deck is in place.....

Railfanning Gladstone Yard today...Late afternoon sun shining as it sets in the Upper Peninsula western sky.........Caught some history that will never be seen by anyone again. 4 Wisconsin Central units SD45 #7525, SD35 #2500, SD45 #7638 and SD40 #6001 running light into Gladstone Yard...................too bad we'll never see these again.............in real life...but they live on in my world....part 2 is a combo of old and new and contains More action as the 4 WC units move back and forth thru Gladstone Yard as CN unit #2650 C44-9W backs into the shop. Also CN #9310 a GP40-2 moves forward then backs down the old ore dock lead.....enjoy

Truthfully, none of my locomotives have any sound.............the sound you do hear is the noisy locomotives.....really though, they are not that noisy but the camera I used is very sensitive to sound and picks up every little hum and buzz.............but it did sound kinda cool, didn't it?

Last video from this weekends "railfan trip". This one from the west end of Gladstone Yard. You can see some scenery progress at this end of the layout. The signal I'm not sure is even correct but stuck it there for the video......it looked cool....anyways,4 CN SD40's ( #5116, #5378, #5385 & #6018)heading eastbound, pulling 33 cars into the west end of Gladstone Yard. After the train enters the yard, 2 CN SD70's (#5612 & #5607) pulling 15 coal porters waits for the last car to clear the crossover before leaving for Green Bay. Forgive the manual throw turnout....thats my hand....

Very realistic train with consist for the paper plant in Groos. Nice job rdenman62.
