It looks pretty good.....and I did consider doing a E & LS layout from Ontonagon to Pembine thought long and hard about it...but decided to do a WC/CN layout from Gladstone to Escananba.....I still get to do E & LS a little bit which gave me a little more variety in what I wanted to accomplish..anyways here are some more pics of #400 completed and pulling a short freight into gladstone yard.

I've been meaning to post on this thread for quite a while. Just didn't have the pictures to share.
I've been custom painting my locomotives for the last couple years, and although the quality of my work isn't even close to that already shared, for the most part it's good enough for me. I pretty much modified HESR's first paint scheme to a point at which it was achievable for me to replicate in N scale. Because of the N scale, none of my custom units have had numbers placed in their number boards yet (that is, on those units where I didn't lose the number boards  ).

My railroad consists of one large, parent organization, and a number of smaller companies, sort of like how CN has various smaller components such as IC, WC and GTW (well, kind of). Along the same lines, my company (Michigan Rail Link, formerly Michigan and Ohio Railways, LLC) has several smaller "subsidiary roads" which include: Michigan Rail Link (MIRL), Michigan Hi-Rail (MIHR), Grand Trunk & Traverse (GTT), the original Michigan and Ohio Railway (MORY), and our Powder River extension road (result of the purchase of a Genessee & Wyoming property out that way several years ago- I'm still not sure exactly where this road would have been or if it even really existed...long story behind this one) the Colorado And Wyoming (CAWX- betcha can't guess where I got these reporting marks from ).

In addition to the various locomotives I've painted, I've also painted/lettered a couple of cabooses, about half of my passenger car fleet and a large number of automobiles and buildings around the layout. Here's what I managed to shoot pictures of:

Have you ever tried to paint something without any plans or confirmation that it actually wore the paint scheme you're painting it into? Well...apparently the SGVY 301 never wore the same paint scheme that the other two SGVY locomotives wear...I found this out after completing my version of the 301. It looks pretty impressive running with the NECR 3869 that Atlas released several years back...

These units need coupler work yet:

Part of the Con-Cor bi-level commuter cars I bought from Matt a while back(it needs a little work yet, including some paint on the trucks- the blue one is borrowed from a Superliner that spent a little too much time submersed in Pine-sol):

UPDATE:
Some (ConCor) Superliners I painted a couple years back. Found the shots in my Photobucket account while updating the links on this post...

A couple "new" units rolled out of the Gladstone Shops today...First up is CN SD40 #5116 and next up is WC only SD35 on their roster, #2500......now only 14 more units to paint up. I pretty much have settled on CN/WC mix of power. I do plan on having a couple of SOO units and 2 SD9 I thought I would paint up as DMIR units and 2 more as E&LS units....also need another SD40 for E&LS.....Anyways my plan is to do at least 2 units a week until I'm done(yeah right),,,,,Well check out the pics and enjoy....

I was going to paint em up as SOO units...to see if anyone could tell they weren't sd60's..............actually I just figured I would hang onto them and buy some sd60 shells from atlas or buy some cowl units from Kaslo shops.....they look pretty good.....

Re: custom painting showcase GLC plow

Unread post by KVERBERK »

This is my first custom paint.

In my modeling world the GLC decided it was time to paint the old Russell snow plow. Here is my version of the GLC blue. A few of the details are incorrect, such as the horn and missing beacon. I may correct these later.

Thanks redenman62. Don, this is my first custom paint project. I have plans to do more but I work kinda slow, so it might be a while.

Finally have some more stuff to show. Been working on getting my loco roster painted and decaled. Here are some pictures of some of the units I've been working on. Take a look and when I have my entire roster done I'll post pictures of my entire fleet......The first couple pictures are of an Atlas GP38 custom with a Kaslo Shop wide cab. This unit isn't quite done yet but I think it turned out pretty darned good and the last picture shows the other units that are currently being worked on.........still have 8-10 more I haven't even touched yet..as always any comments are welcomed........................................

Great work, rdenman62! Will you be putting snow shields on?

Yes I do Don. I cannot find any snow shields for the SD40's though, sunrise used to make them but no more. I'll have to scratch build them. The GP38/40 will all have them if the prototype has them. Only 1 unit thus far has them installed but I have the rest ready. You know where I could possibly find N scale snow shields to fit the SD40's?

Unfortunately, no. I noticed the one unit of yours had them. You'll probably end up making your own. But if they turn out like the rest of your work they'll be great!

I really like your E&LS stuff. I went to high school in White Pine Mi. I don't even think its on the map anymore. But that is just a short hop from Ontonagan. I remember seeing long trains of box cars arriving for the mill there. Also went on an excursion pulled by E&LS GP38 in the GN scheme. Nice work!

White Pine is still on the map. Sadly, the mill there either closed or will be soon.
