For those of you who can actually stomach buying MTH products, they are going to be doing GLLX 3001 this year. From the preproduction shot in the catalog it will definently not be accurate.
$199.95 for an unpowered unit and $399.95 for a powered one.

I dislike the inaccuracies and think they are low quality, but thats my opinion. I realize some of the inaccuracies are requirements of O scale operation and thats part of the reason I don't model in O scale. To each their own.

Well, it would be sweet to have, but all it would do is collect dust since I only run O at Christmas. Yeah, definetly not accurate either.

In my opinion, I think we should feel honored that MTH is doing a paint sceme of the Marquette Rail seince it's a Michigan railroad. Out of all the SD40-2 paint scemes they could of done, they chose MQT. Sure it may not be accurate, but it's better than nothing.

I personally think its cool of them, not knowing anything about them...

If I had the money I would buy it, even though I don't have any O scale stuff, I would get a shelf and some track for it as a display until I could affored a whole circle or something.

For starters, it's a Candian SD40-2, so there's a host of details that aren't right on the model. The bell not being above the cab is a major. Can't tell if the head light's on the nose or not, but looking at the other ones it's probably on the cab, which is also wrong. Jon could get even more specific. We're both very metculously picky when it comes to models.

Personally, I don't model O scale, but I would never buy any MTH products seeing as MTH's main claim to fame is trying to sue other model railroad companies for large dollar amounts. All that does is drive up the price of model RR stuff.

Especially egregious was MTH's claim to have patented "Back EMF" in DCC decoders. As the Wikipedia page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTH_Electric_Trains states:

MTH's critics also say the company patented some elements of DCC, which was supposed to be an unencumbered open standard.

Each to their own, though!

I just got home and found a box at my front door. My GLLX 3001 finally arrived. There was one major flow that was apparent as soon as I removed the foam wrapper. GLLX 3002 is proudly displayed. HUH! I ordered the non-powered unit so I am assuming they ran two road numbers, one for the powered and another for the non-powered. Other than that is is pretty cool looking. The colors are awesome and it will look great on any o-guage layout. Some of the inaccuracies that were mentioned were not fixed. The headlight is where the bell should be. I am not happy about the number 3002 but I am happy I have one. I will try to post pictures later.

MTH was never going to change those innaccuracies. They slap paint on a generic engine and call it "good enough". Most O scalers don't really seem to care about accuracy.

Yeah, I heard they did 3001 for the powered and 3002 for the non powered. Geez, did they do ANY research other than look at 3001's paint?
