Athearn RTR TSBY GP35's not looking very good.....

Unread post by SD80MAC »

I sure hope this is a preproduction model. I didn't know Tisby's colors were "neon blue". The cab headlight also is a dissapointment, but it was expected the models wouldn't have nose lights like the real things. And what's up with the blombergs? The previous run of Ann Arbor GP35's had Alco trucks. I like I said, hopefully this is just a preproduction model and they fix these errors.

I sure hope they darken up the blue for the production run.

Yuck! I sure as hell hope they fix those errors! Even if I don't buy it, I would feel sorry for the loser who would buy it looking like that!

Contact Athearn and point those things out to them. Not sure how feasible the nose lights may be, different mould and all, but getting the paint right shouldn't be hard. Ditto with the Sideframes, considering they'd done a similar arrangement previously.

A good weathering job could probably take car of that blue and make it look more like a real TSBY engine anyway.

Yeah so you don't have to throw the person out of the passenger seat, push the seat forward, and get stuck to realise there is a back seat!

I preferred the black and yellow TSBY units :) . BUT, I preferred the way the guy who chose the blue and yellow colors ran his railroad :D .
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

For those not happy with this go-around of Athearns TSBY i will be doing a tribute to the old TSBY with Black/Yellow units in early 2009. Since Athearn doesn't make correct nose headlights i will also be adding those on. While i'm in the design process, i could probably get a more accurate blue decal produced...but as someone else stated, a little weathing should take care of the neon blue.

I think its going to take more than just 'a little weathering' to take care of THAT blue.

I really need to compare photos, but I have a envelope of TSBY Decals for the 385 and 389 (Going from Memory) that were custom made for Cooper and Oshtemo. Its too bad I'm not set up through Horizon, otherwise I'd be snarfing up some of those re-tooled undec GP35's. They can have the old 'fat' shell GP35's, not even worth using anymore.
