My LS&I Layout

Unread post by CAT345C »

A lot of you guys recently have been asking about my layout. Well I do not have very much completed yet, just the basic track plan and some rough scenery. Please pardon the mess in the background.

My layout is based off of the LS&I during the late 80's which allows me to run all the cool stuff they used to have. The main yard is Eagle mills where all the jobs are built and broke down. At some point CN/WC/CNW will run in from the future expansion area so the cars actually move both ways. There are two mines on the layout, the Champion and Empire mines. The Champion mine loads CNW cars for Escanaba and the Empire mine loads LS&I cars and paint ore gons. The mineral range is a small branch that I saved off the original layout I had from a few years ago. It features the scrap yard and the explosives plant. Some days a local plastics company also trans loads tank cars and hoppers between the two industries on the "main".

The motive power is as follow:
LS&I:
1001, 1002 RS1 Atlas Classics
2 RSD15s Broadway limited, one with sound. (These need to be renumbered still)
1604, 1605 RS3s Atlas Classics
1853 RSD12 Atlas/ Kato
2501 U25c currently on dead line.
3006 U30C Atlas needs stenciling former BN unit just arrived
3051 C30-7 Atlas needs stenciling former BN unit just arrived.

I also have one CNW GP35 for the mine transfer and two Soo Line SD40-2s but I'm not sure those will ever run on the layout.

Here is a bad MS Paint track chart

LS&I 1002 has picked up interchange cars from the MR and is now headed back eastbound to Eagle Mills. This is one of my favorite spots on the railroad, I several dutchmen to create a click clack and rocking motion on the track. It is also the only spot with grass. I hope to some day add static grass but I am stuck on how to go about it for the area I model.

Please do not poke at the ramp agent because he has the power to make your vacation
memorable or miserable. It all depends on what flight you bags go on.

I've since moved up north so I have to build another layout....oh darn! I picked up one of 4 kits that I'll need to put the ore dock up. Give me a few months I will have something to show for it!
